Why is it so hard for homeless black kitties to find a new home? I have been in foster care for months! I have had people inquire about me, and I was adopted once, only to be returned. It wasn't because I was bad. The lady felt her apartment was too small. People think I'm cute; they like my extra toes. However, it seems that people want to adopt the orange cats or pretty calicos. Aren't soft, silky, shiny black cats appealing????

I wish I knew the answer to that! I spent three weeks in a cage at the spca--lots of people took me out to see me, but they always took someone else (a non-black kitty) home. I started coming down with a second respiratory infection and we were heading into kitten season so things were not looking good for me. Fortunately, I was adopted and saved from being pts.

Arthur...You rule! I am so glad you had a happy ending! My foster mom says that people have to be careful placing black kitties in new homes around Halloween. There are still some people who believe in sacrificing black cats and doing other mean stuff to them. Isn't that too bad? There ARE some bad humans out there. Well, we had an inquiry on adopting me this past week. BUT, the guy interested in me was younger than 20 years old. The humans in the rescue think he wanted me on a whim - maybe even as a "Christmas present". He said he couldn't afford an adoption fee. Don't people understand that our foster parents and rescuers spend lots of money on us? They bring us to the vet and get our shots, have us fixed and spend money on toys, treats and kitty litter. People who are looking for a "free kitten" won't spend any money caring for them afterwards, either. These are just some things that I have learned while hanging out with other rescued, homeless kitties in my foster home.

My mom found me outside! I was a tiny little kitten. But she told me she loves black cats anyway! Even though I have heard that black cats do have a lower adoption rate. Dumb superstitions!kitty

I really don't understand why black kittens find it harder to get adopted, they're just as cute as any other cats! In fact I really wanted a black cat when I started my search for my cat Milo, and ended up with two black cats!

What is there not to like black kitties they are sleek, shiny, soft, exotic. I always wanted one, and he's brought nothing but GOOD LUCK !!!
Superstitions are horrible and it's kinda ironic I've never met a cat a didn't like, but I can't say the same for people.

I know that I spent extra time at the Shelter, too. The people there knew that Black was a problem, so they featured me on their Web page. Lucky for me, My Lady saw my picture and story, and she is a fan of the Midnight Louie mysteries by Carole Nelson Douglas! She not only brought me home, she named me after her favorite cat detective, except I'm "Moonlight" because I have a moon on my chest. My Lady thinks black cats are the most elegant of all, because our monochrome color scheme shows off our graceful limbs and curvy tails. She keeps telling me I'm beautiful, gorgeous, handsome, you name it--as well as smart and mysterious. I just hope our people will keep singing our praises and telling everyone what fine cats we are!
