	Bill, Has your dad tried Celebrex? It's a COX-2 inhibitor, which is more specific and doesn't cause the ulcers like Ibuprofen does. My mommy has GERD, ulcers and a hiatal hernia. She has 5 discs in her back that are bulging or herniated and pinching multiple areas. She take Celebrex 200 mg twice a day. There is also a medication that helps with the radiating pain. It's called Lyrica. Also try using an ice pack on the back. 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off. I hope this helps!! Keep a good eye on your dad, Bill!! Purrs and headbutts!
