The well-dressed canine will appreciate having a smartly styled coat for those cold-weather outings. The pattern is styled for either boy or girl and can be made in three sizes with soft wool-blend worsted yarn.

Chest: 11 (15, 19) inches

Materials

Lion Brand Wool-Ease worsted weight yarn (3 oz per skein solid, 2 1/2 oz per skein multi):
His: 2 (2, 3) skeins natural heather #98; Hers: 2 (3, 4) skeins white multi #301

Size H/8 crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
Size G/6 crochet hook
3 (4, 5) snap fasteners each sweater
3 (4, 5) 15mm bow tie buttons for him
3 (4, 5) 15mm bow buttons for her
Yarn markers
Sewing needle and thread
Yarn needle
Gauge
With H hook, 4 sts = 1 inch;
3 rows = 1 inch
Check gauge to save time.

Pattern Notes
Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
Join rnds with a sl st unless otherwise stated.
Ch-2 counts as first hdc throughout.

Pattern Stitches
Front lp hdc: When looking at top of hdc there are 3 horizontal lps, work hdc in first lp only.
Back lp hdc: When looking at top of hdc there are 3 horizontal lps, work hdc in last lp only.

His Body
Row 1 (WS): Beg at tail end, with hook size H, ch 33 (45, 57), hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in each rem ch across, turn. (32, 44, 56 hdc)
Row 2: Ch 2, [front lp hdc in next st, back lp hdc in next st] rep across to last st, hdc in last st, turn.
Rep Row 2 until body measures 1 (2 3/4, 4 1/2) inches.
Row 3: Ch 2, [front lp hdc, back lp hdc, front lp hdc] in next st, [back lp hdc in next st, front lp hdc in next st] rep across to last 2 sts, [back lp hdc, front lp hdc, back lp hdc] in next st, hdc in last st, turn. (36, 48, 60 sts)
[Rep Row 3] 1 (2, 3) times. (40, 56, 72 sts)
Place a yarn marker at beg and end of last row.
Rep Row 2 until body measures 3 1/2 (5 3/4, 8 1/4) inches.

Her Body
Row 1 (WS): Beg at tail end, with hook size H, ch 41 (57, 73), hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in each rem ch across, turn. (40, 56, 72 hdc)
Row 2: Ch 2, [front lp hdc in next st, back lp hdc in next st] rep across, turn.
Rep Row 2 until body measures 1 3/4 (3 3/4, 5 3/4) inches. Place a yarn marker at beg and end of last row.
Rep Row 2 until body measures 3 1/4 (5 3/4, 8 1/4) inches.

His & Her Armhole Shaping
First front
Row 1: Ch 2, [front lp hdc in next st, back lp hdc in next st] 2 (3, 4) times, hdc in next st, turn.
Rep Row 2 of body until armhole opening measures 2 3/4 (3 3/4, 4 3/4) inches, working an odd number of rows, fasten off.

Back
Row 1: Sk next 2 sts on last row of body, attach yarn in next st, ch 2, [front lp hdc in next st, back lp hdc in next st] 11 (17, 23) times, hdc in next st, turn.
Rep Row 2 of body until armhole opening measures 2 3/4 (3 3/4, 4 3/4) inches, working an odd number of rows, fasten off.

Second front
Row 1: Sk next 2 sts in last row of body, attach yarn in next st, ch 2, [front lp hdc in next st, back lp hdc in next st] 2 (3, 4) times, hdc in next st, turn.
Rep Row 2 of body until length measures the same as first front, do not fasten off, turn.

Neck Shaping
Row 1: Ch 2, [front lp hdc in next st, back lp hdc in next st] 2 (3, 4) times, hdc in next st, hdc in first st on back, [front lp hdc in next st, back lp hdc in next st] 11 (17, 23) times, hdc in next st, hdc in first st on first front, [front lp hdc in next st, back lp hdc in next st] 2 (3, 4) times, turn. (36, 52, 68 sts)
Rep Row 2 of body until neck shaping measures 1 (1 1/2, 2) inches, then fasten off.

His & Her Sleeve
Make 2
Rnd 1 (RS): With hook size G, attach yarn at opening, ch 2, working an even number of sts, hdc around opening, join in 2nd ch of beg ch-2.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, [fpdc around next st, bpdc around next st] rep around, join in 2nd ch of beg ch-2.
Rnd 3: Ch 2, [fpdc around next fpdc, bpdc around next bpdc] rep around, join in 2nd ch of beg ch-2.
Rep Rnd 3 until his sleeve measures 2 (2 1/2, 3) inches, fasten off.
Rep Rnd 3 until her sleeve measures 1 3/4 (2 1/4, 2 3/4) inches, do not fasten off.

Her sleeve trim
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch-1, ch 3, [sc in next st, ch 3] rep
around, join in beg sc, fasten off.

His & Her Bottom Ribbing
Row 1 (RS): With hook size G, attach yarn at opening in beg ch, ch 2, working around post of hdc of Row 1, [fpdc around post of next st, bpdc around post of next st] rep across to last st, hdc in last st, turn.
Row 2: Ch 2, [fpdc around post of next st, bpdc around post of next st] rep across to last st, hdc in last st, turn.
Rep Row 2 for his until ribbing measures 2 inches, fasten off.
Rep Row 2 of ribbing for her until ribbing measures 1 3/4 inches, ending on a WS row, turn.

Her trim
Ch 1, sc in first st, [ch 3, sc in next st] rep across edge, fasten off.

His & Her Right Front Edging
Row 1 (RS): With size G hook attach yarn at bottom opening, ch 1, sc evenly sp up front edge, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across to marker, turn, leaving rem sts unworked.
Rows 3-5: Ch 1, sc in each sc of previous row, turn. At the end of last rep, fasten off.

His & Her Left Front Edging
Row 1 (RS): With hook size G, attach yarn at top opening, ch 1, sc evenly sp down front edge, fasten off, turn.
Row 2 (WS): Attach yarn in line with marker, ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.
Rows 3-5: Ch 1, sc in each sc of previous row, turn. At the end of last rep, fasten off.
Sew buttons evenly sp across left front band for his and right front band for her. Sew snap fasteners under buttons.

His & Her Neckline Ribbing
Row 1 (RS): With hook size G, attach yarn at right neck opening (not in front edging), ch 2, work an even number of hdc across neckline to left front edging, turn.
Row 2: Ch 2, [fpdc around post of next st, bpdc around post of next st] rep across to last st, hdc in last st, turn.
Rep Row 2 for his until ribbing measures 3 inches, leaving a length of yarn, fasten off.
Rep Row 2 for her until ribbing measures 3 inches from beg, ending with a WS row, turn.

Her trim
Ch 1, sc in first st, [ch 3, sc in next st] rep across, leaving a length of yarn, fasten off.
For both, fold neckline ribbing in half and sew first and last ribbing rows tog.
