Hmmm...haven't read too many of these, although we like Barbara Michaels (and her alter ego Elizabeth Peters). Do any of you cats have recommendations for this genre? We have Poisonwood Bible, but haven't read it yet.

My meowmy loves historical fiction and reads it all of the time. The books of Jeff Shaara are great, especially his Civil War and Revolutionary War books. But they can be a bit too intense for people who are not true lovers of history. Some people may find them boring.

That is Mommy's all time favorite type of reading cause she is INTO history in a big way. She is reading a book about the South about life on the old plantations.

Well! Since they have dug up Richard III, we have reread The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey and are now reading The Sunne in Splendour by Sharon Kay Penman. We've probably read the Tey one eight or nine times! The Sunne one is really good so far too! Apparently a writer of historical fiction who really does a lot of research before setting pen to paper!
