So, what other books/series have you enjoyed?

I've seen LOTR and The Hobbit mentioned here.

I like Philip Pullman's Dark whatever it is series - "The Golden Compass" and so on.

I adored CS Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia" as a child too.

Any other recommendations for me?

I've done a bunch of kid's series when I was younger (Nancy Drew, Anne of Green Gables, Babysitter's Club, etc.) but none that I LOVED LOVED LOVED. I was (and with the exception of HP, still am) more into individual novels. My favorite book of all time (outside of HP) is The Giver by Lois Lowry. Such a good book ... I have to have read it close to 2 dozen times. Not recently though, so I might have to pull it out after I'm done HPatDH and take a bit of a HP break.

When I was a kid, I really loved "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeline L'Engle and "The Lathe of Heaven" by Ursula LeGuin.

Oh, another great book is Jonothan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. I'm in the middle of it and it's just wonderful.

Another series I adore is the Pendragon series by D.J. MacHale. They aren't as good as Harry Potter, but I've been reading them just as long.

My favourite book of all time is The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas followed closely by The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende.

I've read so many books sometimes I forget about some of them!

I read a lot - and our library allows me to reserve books online, they just call me when they're in. I'm totally spoiled! I'm going to reserve all the books here - thank you! I like almost everything - no romance though. I usually tend to read non fiction, so it's fun to branch out a bit.

The "The Dark Is Rising" sequence by Susan Cooper, which they're in the process of doing as a movie, and is wonderful.
All the Mercedes Lackey "Valdemar" books.
The Redwall Abbey books by Brian Jacques.

Those should keep you busy for a few years...smile I just keep going back and rereading them.

Oh, and Bailey....Tessa's nickname when she was little and could travel by bending time, was "Tesseract".

And I forgot to mention Robert Heinlein's "Glory Road", which is one of the few books I keep a copy of when I find myself moving and not having room to take my whole library with me. "A Wrinkle in Time" is one of the others.

The Anne McCaffrey books - her Dragons of Pern - are wonderful, too. My favs are the first two of the Harper Hall trilogy, but all are really quite good.
