Hi, everyone. Thought it would be fun for members to share with the group any nonfiction books about cats that they've enjoyed!

I posted a group message about a book Mom read a few months ago that she really liked: When Cats Reigned Like Kings, by Georgie Anne Geyer. She also enjoyed Cat Miracles, by Brad and Sherry Hanson Steiger, a collection of amazing true stories about cats.

What are your favorite nonfiction books?

I'm not sure I've read many non-fiction books about cats... Although I think I have a few waiting in line on my bookshelves.

I'll check those out. What are those books about? Can you give us a little description?

Hi, Sasha. When Cats Reigned Like Kings is by the foreign correspondent Georgie Anne Geyer. Ms. Geyer writes about her two cats Pasha and Neko, and her travels to various countries (Egypt, Thailand, Japan) to learn more about the history of cats.

Cat Miracles is a collection of true stories about cats that saved their owners' lives, survived dangerous ordeals, traveled long distances back home, and other amazing or miraculous events.

@ Felix:
The human has ordered the Geyer-book you've recommended. Should last about 3 weeks till we get it. Since now I know not the most about our cultural history - I hope this book will add some more aspects. Thanks for the hint!

My favorite non-fictional book is
Desmond Harris: Catwatching
In quite short and easy reading essays the author explains "strange" cat behavior (e.g. the reason we're "playing" with mice), gives background to some breeds and answers on common myths (e.g. can cats foresee earthquakes? or that thing about our nine lives). To be honest: it helped my human to understand her first cat's manners (=mine!!!) a little better than is explained in most of these advice-book-stuff. Perhaps I should double-post it in one of the open threads?!

You could start a thread about the Catwatching book, if you'd like, Ishtar. I'd enjoy hearing more about it!

I think your human will enjoy Ms. Geyer's book - it's well written and very informative. Let us know what you think about it!

Hiss and Tell - true stories from the files of a cat shrink by Pam Johnson-Bennett

This book is about a feline behaviorist who works on a veterinarian referral house call basis - once the vet determines there is no medical reason for a cat's undesirable or unusual behavior, the owner is referred to Pam. This is an interesting and entertaining collection of some of her most memorable cases, which unfold like mysteries. Highly recommended, 4 paws up.

There is a book about cats in books.

It's called "Cats in Books" - a celebration of cat illustration through the ages. Selected and introduced by Rodney Dale.

This is a fun book - it has illustrations of cats in books and explanations and descriptions of each of them. Any book lover and cat fan should really enjoy it!

my fav. non fic cat book is hands down "cats will be cats" by David Blake. its the story of an outside cat family and her struggle. and the best part is, it takes place in a small town thats 30 miles from my home in Michigan.
