Hi everyone! Thanks for inviting me to this group! Of course, I love the name Sasha (although when I was a puppy, I thought my name was "Sasha-No!").

My mom thought Sasha would be a good name for me, because I am a long-haired German Shepard and I looked VERY fluffly as a puppy. She thought Sasha was a warm name for a cold place and my fluff reminded her of being cozy in the winter. It's wierd, but that's how I got my name. How about the other Sashas?

How did you get *your* name Sasha?

hi! hmm... i'm not really sure why i picked sasha. probably because the name sasha to me seems friendly and calm. well, i guess she doesn't fit into the calm group! unlike fang or rex- they just seem to mean to me. i had 3 names picked out. 1. stella- was her name before we changed it to sasha, 2. mya- i kinda thought it sounded like you were trying to say myla(but i still like mya!), and 3.sasha- it was the name that i have always wanted to name my dog. i am very happy that i picked sasha! it is such a lovely name! sasha. p.s.- if any one wants to be a group administrator with me- just tell me! anyone is welcome to become one!!

A few reasons. Mainly because my Mom has always liked Russian names. She thought I looked like was a Russian cat - even a Polar bear.

Also, my mom really likes the composition Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev. She used to play the oboe (wretched horrible sounding loud thing if you ask me), and got the names and musical parts of the duck (oboe) confused with the bird (flute). The duck was Sonia, bird was Sasha, and cat was Ivan (clarinet). She did realize her mix up within a week or so of naming me, but kept Sasha because she liked it better.
Plus there were lots of fun nicknames that went along with it. Sassy Cat Sasha was one of her favorites, and Sashi or Sashikins.

I've asked Mommy how she picked my name. She said the name picked her.. much like I picked her when her and Daddy were looking at all my littermates (I was one of 12). On they drive home from picking me up, they were trying to think of a German name for me. But nothing came to mind. Mommy said the name "Sasha" kept popping into her head for some reason, but she knew Daddy wanted a German name so she didn't mention it. We were almost home when Mommy finally said she didn't know why, but "Sasha" keeps popping into her head. Daddy said "Well, it is a Russian name, but I like it... Yeah. I think Sasha will work."

The cool part is that Daddy had decided on a German Shepherd for Mommy because he's gone alot driving trucks and wanted a protector for Mommy. So Mommy got curious on day and looked up the name Sasha on the internet. Turns out it means "Guardian of mankind." How cool is that.. My name means my job!! I love my name, it's sweet and pretty (like me) it's meaning illustrates my ability to protect those I love so much. big grin

When I was adopted no one in my family could agree on a name. I came with the name "Tickles" but no one liked that name. They argued and argued for days and I was getting tired of not having a real name. Then a neighbor who we didnt even know that well came by and asked what my name was. He was told I didnt have one yet. Suddenly he said, "I always thought Sasha was a nice name for a dog". All 5 members of my family looked at eachother and said "yes we like that name" and anyway we do have some Russian heritage. So the name stuck and now it is part of me. Everyone is really happy with me and my name.

Hi, I'm pretty sure I have alot of ACD in me , but I'm not sure what else. It may be beagle because my ears flop down, I love to eat and I am mellower than most ACDs. I also act like a beagle in 0ther ways as I'm not crazy about frisbees etc. I'm thinking of trying the new DNA test to try to find out what I am. Has anyone tried this? The website is http://www.whatsmydog.com/
