The Siberian cat is thought to have originated 1000 years ago in Russia and was recently introduced to the USA in the early 1990's. Siberians are considered the largest domestic feline because of it's large and dense bone structure. Its coat is simi-long haired and comes in many colors and color patterns. The dander produced by these cat's (FEL D1) is measurably less than that produced by most domestic cats and is considered to be hypo-allergenic. Far more people with cat allergies can tolerate the Siberian cat quite well as proven through hundreds of testimonials.
Siberians are also known to be dog-like. They are more dependant on human interaction and tend to bond closer than other feline breeds. This also creates a situation that provides for easier training. Siberians are powerful cats, but rarely injure their human friends, even in play. They purr very loudly and love to head butt their favorite humans. They are not very vocal but quickly establish communications through body language.
Because of the obvious reasons above and many amazing others, the Siberian cat and kitten are rapidly becomming the pet of choice for many families. ---from the Svetdanhaus Cattery

***My own personal thoughts. I now own 4 and even though Im extremely allergic to all animals I'm not at all allergic to these beautiful cats. I love their personalities and how each one is uniquely different. I've had other breeds of cats before my allergies built themselves up to such a level that I could not own another cat that wasn't a Russian Siberian and I cannot believe the personalities of these. They are amazing with children and adults and I've always called them my puppy cats. I had resigned myself to never owning another cat again until my mother found an article on the internet about them and bought Mia, our first one in our immediate family in which we all fell in love with her.

I'm interested in all of your stories. Love, Tanya (mommy) and her babies, Lilly (6 months), Ruby (4 1/2 years), Arina (1 1/2 years), Danica (6 years)

Well I have to disagree with the part about us NOT being vocal - I've rarely known a more vocal cat then me, the chirps I make have a lot of variety and often mum can tell what it is I want by the sounds I make.

I agree with the previous post - Sputnik didn't get the nicknames "Squeaky" and "Howler Monkey" for nothing...

Tasha

Meep!

Also agreed with the previous posts - Tasha is very vocal, especially when she wants food/string/something. Lately whenever she's been flipping one of her squid-looking toys around and "killed" it, she feels the need to announce it in a fairly loud (and cute) way. Very strong purrs on both her and her brother also smile

Rousinka

I wanna play!

I agree with everything except for the vocal part too, I think Siberians might be vocal or not, it doesn't depend on the breed. Rousya's VERY vocal while my first Siberian cat mewed rarely. I keep in touch with 3 of Rousya's kittens and while 2 of them are vocal just like their mother, 1 is not. Plus I've talked to Siberian cat owners while wasting time participating in cat shows and some said their cats are vocal, some said not.

I taught my Lily to be vocal. She was very quiet when I first brought her home at 4 months old. I speak to her in a high-pitched chipmonk-like voice all the time. She has a very sweet-sounding meow. She greets me with a meow every time I open the front door, and she meows when she wants my attention. That's about it.

Semper- Fidelis

I have grown up with cats and have never had a cat with such an interesting personality. My husband, who is allergic to cats, has not had any problems with his allergies with Semper AT ALL. I have read that each Siberian is different for each person as far as allergies go, so I am glad that Semper's level of hypoallergenicness (a new word??) works for my husband.

I sound like a googling baby. Unlike my sister Lily who's very quiet, I'm extremely vocal, but nothing that comes out of my mouth sounds like cat noises. I might be an alien.
