I just informed Tyson that he is now known as "Speed Bump" and he walked over to me, very slowly laid his head in my lap, looked me in the eye and sneezed. Not entirely sure what to make of that. Or what he made of that. Tyson is no longer known as "Speed Bump."

With the barking, you couldn't have said it better! Tyson barked the most ever in his life the other day (three times at a particularly weird man on the university campus), and they were BIG, DEEP, SERIOUS barks that put my heart in my throat and my bladder in a vice. When an Akita speaks business, they really mean business. Is your Ty-Dog super talkative? Or Tor? My Tyson makes a lot of "woo"ing noises, mimicking tones from me talking, when he feels the need to chat with me or tell me something. He has become much more vocal recently too!

Lol at the Speed Bump!

My Ty is not vocal. He whines when he's really excited, like when we get home and he's waiting for us to get to the fence. He whuffs when he's uncertain or suspicious. He barks when he's mad. By-Tor does all the woo-wooo talking noises. He groans and grumbles and talks back, especially when he's excited. He also howls, at sirens or if he hears a lot of other dogs barking. I've still never got Ty to howl.

My Ty howled once for me when I came home. Other than that just the wooing!

You know I read somewhere that dogs barking and making all these noises is actually ingrained in them by humans. It's how we communicate, and them making these noises is mimicking our talking. But then it seems like much much older breeds don't tend to be very barky or yappy. I wonder why.

Why Akita? Got an Akita /GSD mix .So different from any other dog
I ever had and her personality was pure Akita.
Would I get another? YES!! Two in fact! I can't imagine ever owning
another breed now I'm hooked. Most difficult thing? Probably the shedding.Ispend half of every summer cleaning up what looks like someone chased a pomeranian around the house with clippers until they shaved it bald. Another Akita in my future ? You bet!!

Tyson is like the never ending snow storm. I can not believe the hair I am getting off of him lately. It is in the 20s-30s at night, it is definitely Fall, and yet he seems to be growing in undercoat only to blow it out right away? He fluffs up, then the hair comes loose and looks all clumpy and horrible so I have to brush it out. Then repeat. I hope it is the right thing to brush it out, I don't want to leave him naked and cold! shock

Still even more- to learn.

Yes,daily brushing during the blowing of the coat is absolutely the best thing to do,weekly the rest of the time is considered enough but I still do mine at least every other day because they seem to lose hair even after their done blowing their coat and I like them to look sleek, shiny, and well groomed.

Yea my Furminator (said affectionately in an Arnold Schwarzenegger voice) has been my best friend as of late. It looks like many white fluffy animals have exploded around the yard.
