I am starting this thread because several furts (including me now) have had or have cancer. frown

SYMPTOMS :One of the most prevalent kinds of cancer is lymphoma. So that is where I am going to start. Usually, cats feel and act sick when they have cancer and that's why they end up at the vets. Symptoms include not wanting to eat, vomiting, diarrhea, feeling lethargic and others. If the tumor is close to the lungs a cat could show problems breathing. The problem is we might get one of those symptoms and our parents might think it is something else. In my case, the first day I didn't want to eat, my mum thought it might be a fur ball. I don't eat right before I make a hairball for my mum. By the second day,she took me in because she knew I just wasn't feeling well. The problem is, by the time we act sick, we can be very sick with cancer.

I have small cell intestinal lymphoma and didn't have a tumor on any of my lymph nodes. Symptoms with small cell lymphoma may be a little different than symptoms with other kinds of lymphoma and cancer, esp. in the beginning. Early symptoms may include chronic constipation or diarrhea; vomiting after eating; a huge appetite and constantly eating yet losing lots of weight (because the body is not absorbing nutrients from food); and elevated liver enzyme numbers that don't seem to indicate liver disease. Other numbers on your blood tests may be normal.

Your parents may have a sense that something is terribly wrong but the usual blood tests and xrays come back with normal results. It usually takes an ultrasound and endoscopy or a surgical biopsy to make the diagnosis.

you see, like with my thyroid tumor, I have never acted any different than I usually do, just started losing weight, which mom first attritbuted to old age...well I kept losing weight and she KNEW something was wrong. But one of our feline copeing skills is that we don't let on that we are sick until we are very sick so pawrents often get upset at themselves for not finding it sooner. It is our nature and we don't want them to worry, or get mad at themselves.

I had mammary cancer, had my surgery in July and 4 chemo treatments, I am now cancer free...the key is my Mom found my lumps when they were tiny, not when they were big....that was a plus for me....My Specialist says if I can stay cancer free for 1 1/2 yrs to 2 yrs I will live a long life, but only time will tell....

Mom was super scared and afraid for me, but we made it through we are now taking one day at a time and we are cherishing the days that I am here....

We pray for all the kitties that have cancer and they are in our thoughts and prayers.

I had a dark black "mole" removed recently. Luckily it came back benign but the vet said that any "mole" that is dark in colour or fast growing or irregular shape is suspicious and the best approach is to remove them while they are still small and just on the surface.

I take 25 mg. cyclophosphamide (aka Cytoxan) twice a week and 5 mg of prednisone twice a day. The end of December will make it a year since I started my treatment and it's working very well . . . so well that I've gained 3 lbs over the past year and now weigh 11.0 lbs -- mommy says I've become a chubb-chubb with a moon face and fat cheeks! red face
