D-Max's Mom here...I am so sorry to see this...FIP is a terrible diagnosis and so hard to understand...The only true test for FIP is a necropsy....

My question is how was it deteminded that Angus has FIP? There is no definitve test...Many cats test positive for the corona virus but it never mutates to FIP...Is there bloating, wheezing, or eye problems...

My D-Max was sick his entire life and FIP was not even thought about till he was 3.5...then he had his eye removed and necropsied and he was a definite FIP...He lived another 8 months...His brother Midnight is corona virus positive and has never manifested the FIP....

I would suggest you do lots of research..But I warn you the more you read the less you know and understand...If it is truly FIP love him and make him comfortable..If it is a corona virus positive there is hope...Here are a couple of good sites with info....

Just hang in there. FIP is horrible but giving your baby TLC is what he needs now.

Read my story. I was tissue tested and had many ups and downs but led a happy life with Mommy. There are miracles!

Angus's Mom here- thanks for the resposes and the kind words, MUCH APPRECIATED! I really needed it!
D-Max's mom: to answer your question regarding diagnosis, I had brought Angus to the vet because I thought that he had eye allergies (although he is a persian and he always has drippy eyes but it seemed to be more then usual) and he was walking a little funny. My vet felt his belly and thought that she felt a mass. They took xrays and she thought she saw something and was concerned about the size of his heart (he is a micro mini persian 10 months and 3.8 lbs) in relation to his body so she had a specialist come in the next day to give him an ultrasound and a full blood panel. The results showed that Angus had a diaphramal hernia (probably from birth) so his liver is pushing through the hole and touching his heart. In addition, his kidneys looked a bit abnormal. However, both his kidney and liver function is normal. His blood results however, revealed the probability of FIP as well. His coronavirus titer showed that he had been exposed to the virus. Also, his globulin count was high and he is slightly anemic. However his lympocytes were normal. We have Angus on an antibiotic 2x per day (he also has a UTI) eye drops 3x a day and prednisone 1x per day. He is eating well and his eyes seem much better. I also give him pedialyte every day. He seems to be in no pain and his eyes look full of life however, he can barely walk. It is devastating to watch him try!! We will be starting him on vitamins tomorrow acemannon, E, C- and maybe b?? I hope this will help to improve his walking. My concern and worry is that I am missing something or that he has been misdiagnosed and that I should be treating him for something else. FIP is such a scary disease - you just never know. He is presenting a lot of signs consistant with the disease however, he had no fever, his lymphosite not low, his eyes are back to normal and has a great appetite. Confusing! If he gets worse I will put him on the interfuron- should I start now anyway? Any positive results? He has no fluid asd he would have the dry form and I havent read much on dry FIP and Interfuron.
I am just loving him and my fiance and I are just doing everything we can to help him. I just need to work on staying strong so I can continue to be the best mommy to him. At the moment I cry all the time and have trouble sleeping and just feel depressed.
Again, thank ou for your response and concern. If you have any advice/information that can assisit both myself and Angus, we would be very grateful.

Angus...we're living with FIP, too. Jake (who has the non-effusive, or "dry" form of the virus) has been in remission for 19 months, thanks to prednisilone and Feline Omega Interferon. There are a couple of things that I would recommend that you do: join the Yahoo! group at http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/FIPCatSupport/ and get Angus started on the FOI. If you send me a pawmail, we can talk more.

And yes, D-Max is correct: the only true way to diagnose FIP is via a necropsy. We lost Jake's sister (litter-mate) to FIP (we had her on FOI as well but didn't start it soon enough), and the necropsy revealed that it was indeed FIP. Her bloodwork, ultrasound, etc., were identical to Jake's, so there is no doubt that he is infected, as well. He exhibited symptoms first, however, so he got the FOI first.

Hi All- Angus' Mom here- today was a bad day. Yesterday I was feeling so good Angus seemed to be doing well and I thought that he had more energy. He was cuddling with my fiance and I all evening and I really felt hopeful. Today, not so much. Maybe I am just a bit paranoid, he ate well today but seemed lethargic (more then usual) he didnt want to walk at all and wont poop. Yesterday we got him to do it (with a little coaxing) but I am worried that his paresis is preventing him from eliminating. If he doesnt go by tomorrow I am taking him to the vet to get it out. Is this normal for FIP?
Hoping for a miracle to help him to walk better. He doesnt seem to be in any pain so I guess I can count my blessings for that!!

Purring for Angus....Is he drinking enough water..He may be a bit dehydrated and that would cause him not to poop....Mom would use a syringe to give me water or Vita Gravy if she thought I Was not drinking enough or else I would have to go get sub-q fluids under my skin....
