	Hi pups!! Sirius Black sent me a pmail asking about getting started crafting your own HP-themed attire. I thought I'd start a thread for people interested in doing this together to get ready for the big event this summer! With the way the economy has gone, more people are turning to DIY to save money, so I've seen a lot of the big craft stores expanding their yarn depts. and I've seen TONS of HP colors!! Anyway, one book I recommend is called Charmed Knits. This book is a collection of a LOT of awesome HP patterns, including house scarves (both styles), house beanies and berets, house socks, an invisibility cloak, etc. It even has a project for knitting your own Errol the Owl! I think one can find all these patterns online too, but the book is only $11 right now and I know I would spend a LOT more printing the patterns! You can also find a ton of links to HP-related patterns on Fresh Isle Fibers' website. They have anything you could want to make, both things that look like stuff from the movies and projects inspired by the books/films. If you're a crocheter, though, the only pattern in the book that really involves crochet is the Molly Weasley sweater, and you still have to knit the body. However, I've designed quite a few crocheted versions of HP things so if you're interested in a crocheted alternative, I can help with that! For those of you wanting to learn to knit, check out Knittinghelp.com. They have EXCELLENT videos for different knitting styles and all the basic techniques (and some of the not-so-basic ones too). 	I think that the Leaky Cauldron Harry Potter website also has some craft directions...some did seem a bit scrambly though. I'm Considering knitting a Gryffindor scarf for the premier...I'll have to wait until exams are over

	Okay, edited again! Yay buddy!! I need to do another scarf too, I still haven't made one for ME yet! My boyfriend brought me back (from ITALY!!!!!) the perfect bronze yarn for a Ravenclaw (book colors) scarf. It's even a high-quality wool, I was shocked that he remembered my pickiness about material! I just have to find some blue to go with it, but I've been a bit reluctant to start the project. 	ANYWAY, I was just posting to share my own knitted/crocheted HP projects: Here Also, if you haven't joined the website Ravelry, I highly recommend it! There are a ton of HP-inspired patterns there that are free, but only available through the website. It's also a great resource to see everyone else's projects, to find errata from the patterns, and to be inspired! Oh, and I started a thread in Fashion and Furniture to let people know about the group and the project! Hopefully we'll find a good group of folks wanting to create things together! 	I'm betting that if you know the basics of crochet, you could make a HP scarf sans pattern. Especially if it's the the pre-POA scarf. Very easy. And I like it better.

	Yeah, most of the scarves I made were crochet and I just made it up as I went along. Very easy!! The scarves knit are pretty easy as well and don't really require a pattern, just good eyeballs .

	SO.....who's up for scarf knitting? I'm probably going to order the blue I need for my scarf in the next few days. I'm making myself a Ravenclaw scarf in blue and bronze. Just some yarn options if ya'll are looking for good, affordable options for knitting. I love the site Knitpicks. One of their workers did a whole blog entry on which colors from their lines are perfect for HP knitting, and this includes stuff from the thinnest laceweight to the heaviest alpaca. You can see her entry here I've used a ton of the Knitpicks yarn and just love it. I'm a music teacher, so my budget is...well...miniscule. However, I do have a love for natural fibers as opposed to man-made. I wasn't a believer until I made my first scarf from alpaca, but that sucker is WAY warmer than anything I could have purchased at the store for an exorbitant price! Also, the needles from this site are phenomenal! I exclusively use them now, great product for a great price! My scarf is going to be made with a bronze yarn my boyfriend brought me from Italy and probably Knitpicks Swish DK in Delft heather. For some affordable option available at your local stores, I've done a scarf for a friend with severe wool allergies in Vanna's Choice. I've also used Caron Simply Soft, which is a REALLY affordable option. That's what most of the scarves I did for this last year were made from. Another yarn I really liked to use for these were Lion Brand Wool-Ease, which is affordable and comes in the appropriate colors. However, I haven't seen such a wide selection in this kind of yarn since I moved back to the midwest. So, which scarf will you knit and which house?
