How does everyone feel about NOT giving annual vaccations to cats who may have the coronavirus? My cats were exposed and possibly have it now from my cat Snickers who passed away from FIP. I've heard that vaccinating can cause stress and was wondering is anyone here is going this route of NOT vaccinating. This is a new concept for me but up until 2 weeks ago I knew nothing of this virus and FIP. Now I'm trying to figure out whats best for my other 7 cats.

D-Max's Mom here..I am so sorry that you lost Snickers to FIP..It is a horible disease and once you start researching it the more you read the less you know and understand....You specifically asked about vaccinations..I am against giving any vaccinations to a cat that tests positive for the corona virus....Their immune system is already weakened and the stress of the vaccine could cause the virus to mutate to full blown FIP.....Where I live it is the law that all cats must have the rabies vaccine so I do however give Midnight (D-Max's brother) the rabies one year....Not the 3 year...

Under no circumstance allow your Vet to give the FIP vaccine..It is very controversial and has never proven to work...

Most cats test positive for corona virus but it never mutates...I know of no way to get rid of it...Midnight tested positive and has never shown any FIP Symptoms....He will be 9 in July...

The best thing for your other cats is to feed a healthy diet and give them a safe environment...I do not know what you are feeding but if it is from the grocery store it is not healthy....I feed Midnight Wysong dry food and Wellness Core and Tiki Cat canned food....(I know this is pricey)....some recommend a raw or home cooked diet but Midnight refused to eat that...

I hope this helps a little bit..I have been away for a few days and just now getting back onto Catster....

Thanks for the info. I have been feeding regular food but plan on starting the switch on Monday. I'm going to the pet store tomorrow and from the info I have gatheres these are the food I plan to buy and try: Natures Variety"Instinct" both can and kibble, Wellness Core can, dry and treats and pouches, and AvoDerm can. This is just what I'm gonna buy to see what they like best. My cats normally like a variety anyways.

Those are all good foods....way to goway to goway to goway to goway to go.

Midnight is very picky about what he eats...He turned his nose up at the Avoderm....I also do not give Midnight tap water because of the chemicals in it..I have a filter on the tap that I use for us and him or else give him spring water....

Oh boy, thats a great idea on the tap water. I never even considered that. Our water is pretty good where I am at, but I dont want to take any chance an now I'll but filter or someting. Britta water filters, is that what they are? Thanks so much for mentioning that.

Yes Britta is one of the filters...I think that one you put the water in a pitcher and pour it through...I use the Pur filter system which attaches to the faucet with an off/on handle so that you can use it for drinking and the regular water for dishes etc....

I also give Midnight some supplements..Add life from Wysong..I pour it on his food..As you can see I trust the Wysong products....

When D-Max was not eating well I was giving him Vita Gravy...(available at most pet food stores but you usually need to ask since they hide the good stuff)...I could syringe it into his cheek..It also tastes good added to their food..Midnight really likes it and gets some every few days...

Midnight also gets some salmon oil about 3 or 4 times a week to help keep his coat healthy...

Have I gone overboaard? ?Maybe but I want to do everything I can to keep Midnight healthy....

Now does your Midnight have FIP or the coronavirus? My Snickers who had FIP passed away and I haven't tested my other 7 cats. I'm basically just trying to change things assuming that at least some if not all are now carriers of the corona virus. At this point all seem happy and healthy and don't show any signs and I want to leep it that way. I know that could change at any moment considering Snickers showed absolutely no sign up until the first day I took him to the vet. Within 2 weeks I was putting him to sleep. So now I'm just trying to prevent the mutation if they are carrying it. Thanks for all the help. Do you have an experence with that Comfort Zone Feliway spray or diffusers? I have 2 cats that hate each other and are always chasing each other around. The one is urniating on the kitchen floor I'm assuming because of her stress. Obviously this concerns me about the stress and fighting because if she has the corona virus I dont want it to mutate.

D-Max and Midnight are litter mates...D-Max joined our family when he was 3 months old...Midnight came to us 3 months later at 6 months of age....(they are pure bred Bombay's)

D-Max was always the smaller of the 2 and had what was first thought to be allergies then asthma and was treated with steroids (prednisone) as well as his vaccines...He was about 3.5 when his retina detached and the eye specialist suspected FIP and ordered the blood test..His blood titers were 1860 something....I started a crash course in FIP and better health for my boys....After that no more steroids or vaccines for D-Max..Steroids are very dangersous for a cat with a supressed immune system....It gives temporary relief but does more harm in the long run....The FIP was confirmed when his eye was removed in May 2004 and sent to Cornell...

D-Max was treated with acupuncture after I stopped the steroids..The results were plain to see..He was happier and perkier after each treatment and when we were going to the vet he knew he would feel better and cooperated by staying still for the 20 minutes the needles needed to be in his body....I feel they helped him to live that additional 8 months after his eye was removed...

I had Midnight tested and he came back corona positive with titers in the 1600's...He has never manifested the FIP..I have never had him retested..I just do not want to know as long as he shows no symptoms....

I have no personal experience with the Feliway because my boys loved each other and shared a special bond..But I have heard good things about it but it takes time for it to be effective...

I have however used Bach's Rescue Remedy ..It is an all natural stress reliever...I use it for myself as well as Midnight when he has to go to the Vet or if I am going to be away from him..He is very attached to me since his brother left us.....You can put a few drops in your cats water and they will drink it ..And as well you can put a few drops on your hands and massage your cats heads rubbing the RR on their mouth and neck area (not in the eyes) as well as on their paws...I can see a difference in the car ride to the vet if I forget to do this about 30 minutes before we leave as well as the night before...I also spray a little bit on the towel in his carrier....

And you are so right..stress will cause the corona virus to mutate to FIP....I am a believer in research and asking questions and more questions and not accepting with blind faith anything anyone tells me even my trusted Vet...He knows this and we learned about FIP together...Western medicine is good but there are times eastern medicine makes more sense..I use both with the blessings and guidance of my Vet...

I'm still confused on whether I should get the regular vaccinations for my cats. Truth of the matter I have 7 cats and the test would be $65 each to find out if they have the corona virus. Also, like you said, I honestly prefer to NOT know if they are positive for corona virus since no one is showing any sort of symptoms. I think if I knew they had it I might just worry more and more and never rest. I'm doing my best right now with the food change, added litter boxes, getting the new litter, bleaching the litter boxes and the water filter. Honestly I'm already so stressed over this I don;t know if I can take abymore. The last big decision I have is if I should vaccinate and I just cant decide because if they dont have the corona virus maybe I should be vaccinating but then again I dont want to test all of the. This FIP is the worst! It's really unreal on how many other cat owners that I have told my story to that dont know what FIP is. I had cats for 16+ years and never really knew anything and obviously I'm not the only one. This is horrible and unfortunetly I dont rreally trust my vet and cant find anyone I like better than her in my whole area! All the vets around here are terrible. My vet is the one who recommended me getting my other 7 cats the FIP vaccine AFTER snickers died. It only took me 5 minutes online to find out that the vaccine is not good and my vet is recommending it????? She surely has read this information too if I found it in 5 minutes. Dont get me wrong I think shes a good vet to a point, but I think she tends not to be open minded and doesnt really like you to tell her "well I read it on the internet" line. At one time she recommended some controversial medicine for my ferret and when I read about it online I told her I cahnged my mind. Asked her to look into some other alternate treatment, said she would, and never did. So I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. At this point I'm going by all the first hand experience I can get from peoploe like you online. Thank you.

One other thing, where do you get the Rescue Remedy, online or available in stores? Ok, 2 things, and have you heard of / use "Transfer factor feline complete"?
