Mom's worried. When she came out to the barn this morning, I was still in the locked feed room, which has never happened before. When Mom opened the door, I scooted right out. When I came back few minutes later, Mom saw that I can't put any weight on my one hind leg; she's afraid it might be broken. Of course, I refused to eat (although I'd eaten during the night), and once she'd put me down, I went and hid. She can't find me; I just knew she was gonna take me to the ER, and I didn't want to go. She took away the food and water, hoping I"ll get hungry and thirsty enough to come into the barn - and then, I'll just bet she'll grab me, stuff me into the carrier, and off to the vet we'll go in the morning!

The feed room was a bit disheveled, so Mom doesn't know exactly what happened.

If you could all purr for me, so that my leg's not so bad tomorrow, maybe I won't have to go to the hospital.

Thanks, furpeople! I know I can count on you!

Oh dear sweetest Shadow.
This is such sad news. It sounds as though you had a very scary night. We hope that you will come out soon and let your Mommy take care of you. She is only wanting to do what is best for you, you know and if it means going to the V.E.T. then you must allow her to take you there.
The doc will fix you up and you will be all better and can come back and play with us here very soon.
*Worried purrs*
Please take care of yourself Shadow. Let us know what happens! hug

Hi, efurrybody. I'm posting to let you know that Shadow is in the surgeon's hospital, waiting for surgery to have his broken leg fixed tomorrow. He's broken his back leg right above the joint, and the surgeon's going to put a plate on it to fix it. Shadow might be able to come home on Wednesday, but he might not be able to get home until Friday.

I hope you'll purr that he'll come through the surgery just fine. I'll keep you posted. Thank you all for caring.

hug

Hi, efurrybody ~ Polly here with an update about Shadow. His mom just spoke with the surgeon, who said that Shadow now has a 7-screw plate in his leg (guess he'll never make it through airport security big laugh); everything went fine, and Shadow's in recovery right now. Thank you all for your purrs for him; I'll post more when I hear it.

Tuffy, I'm sure Shadow is grateful for your posts. To answer your question: his mom has no idea how he broke his leg. There is no wound, so it doesn't seem likely that he was attacked or hit by a car. (And he doesn't seem to go near the road anyway.)

His mom feeds him and his brofur, Smokey, in the feed room in the barn. They both figured out how to climb the ladder into the loft, walk to the other end, and then jump down onto the high table where the food and water are. If their mom closes the feed room door - at night, to keep the raccoons out - Smokey and Shadow know to jump back up to the loft. But it's a *very* high, steep jump. And Shadow's mom noticed few days ago that one of the claws on his extra toes was catching in the carpet that she put on the table to make things a bit more pleasant for the brofurs. She's thinking that maybe his claw got caught into the carpet and somehow threw him off balance or something. She just doesn't know. Or maybe he broke it outside and was still able to jump down into the room but couldn't jump out. He's not saying, so his mom will never know.

I do know that she's very grateful for all your purrs and prayers; they helped to get Shadow through his surgery. Tomorrow, she'll call the hospital and see how he's doing. Thank you all!!

wave Hi, efurrybody. Polly here, with an update on Shadow.
His mom brought him home this afternoon, and he perked up right away! In fact, he's in a large crate because the doctor wants him confined, but his mom is afraid he might hurt himself trying to get out. But she doesn't know what else to do. shrugwink He has a whole long line of staples in his leg, and he has to have an. . an. . anti-by-ottic, I think is the word. We're all grateful for all your prayers; please keep them up so that Shadow settles down in the crate. You people are the very best, and I'm so glad I'm part of this group!
