Mommy's fuzzy- orange baby

Poor mommy. She doesn't know what to do with me. Daddy wants to get rid of me. Mommy and Daddy were gone for a week and they were home about 30 minutes last night. I bited mommy's other leg (I bited her in May and caused cellulitis---3 ER visits, 4 nights in hospital, a lot of money). They went right back to the ER cause it bled so much. Mommy got back on antibiotics right away. Mommy is sad because if I do keep biting her, she can't help but agree with daddy to find another home for me. I have no claws so I can't be an outside kitty and I might do this to someone else. Mommy is scared of what will happen to me..........

I bite mommy when she gets a drink out of the frig at night. I don't know why! I hide and I attack her as she goes into the bedroom with her cup. I also love her long nightgowns that end just at the ankles where I bite. She forgot to watch for me and I really bited her bad. Now she has signs on the frig to remind her and she's carrying scarey shakey pill bottles around. Oh, and I also had my hide-out (my lovely crinkle tent) taken away from me. It's hot and summer and Florida and Mommy doesn't want to have to wear long pants in the house to protect from my teeth.

Legolas,

tell meomwy that taking things away might make you more mad than anything. When meowmy takes away my favorite toys I get obnoxious, so my favorites (the cubes, the turbo scratcher, and the wand) are always out for me to see them.

And you know what? That was probably your way to tell meowmy that you were displeased about her being gone for a whole week. shock The only time meowmy was gone a whole week, I stopped eating and made myself sick and stopped eating to show her just how upset I was with her. Mom hasn't left me that long since (she takes me with, which I don't mind, aside for the car ride). We also got a kitten to assuage my separation anxiety fears (I get needy if my meowmy is gone several hours, which will be the case once she starts teaching). Maybe you could benefit from having another cat stay home with you too?

Some other kitties pee on rugs, instead. It sounds like you bite when you're upset, and you bite as play. I remember last time we gave your meowmy suggestions on how to get you not to bite at her. Did your meowmy have any success with any of them?

Has your meowmy had you in to the vet's for a complete checkup lately? A lot of times, inappropriate behavior is linked to health problems in kitties - it's our way of saying "HELP - something is wrong, and I don't know how to fix it and I don't speak your language and I NEED you!"

At least a checkup will rule out physiological problems as the root cause of this behavior. Good luck! R.R.

Hmmmm, you do need to stop doing that. I know your mom would be very, very sad to have to give you away.
I wish I could make a suggestion, but I don't have one. I suppose you could be detoothed, but that is not a good suggestion at all.

I think you need to call Dr. Katrina on Animal Planet's Housecat Housecall. She could probably help your momma figure out what is making you do this.
Check out the website for times and contact info. It's on here in the eastern timezone at 9 a.m. on Saturdays.

Something to think about.

You might try a spray bottle with water. When meomy had a cat with no claws he would try to bite her too and she did that or if she could, she would thump his nose and he stopped doing it. I hope you have success at changing the behavior. It would be so sad if you had to leave your home.

Do mew haf toys dat infurest mew?
Da doctors on won advise columm, mews, I meens, say mewr Meowmie should yell ouch! Mew might realize mew bitin so hard. If mew bite when she is close to mewr head, she can do what mama kitties do. Hold da kitty down fur a time out. Worst comes to worst if she has to, she can make mew haf a time out. Only 20 min. den she can let mew out and let mew know she loves mew.
I think About.com has an article about misbehaving cats. I think dat's da won I had bean readin.
