Legolas, your mom might laugh, but you should really beware. The can full of pennies is the second scariest thing in the whole wide world after the vacuum cleaner.
Mommy has gotten me to behave with it by just reaching for it. She would couple it with a verbal "stop" to warm me, and she swears just saying "stop" in that annoyed mommy tone suffices these days. Just this morning, she said "stop!" when she caught me trying my nails out on the side of grandma's couch and I looked up tentatively and met mom's firm stare. Then I ran right in the next room and scratched my nails on my post like I am supposed to. I bet grandma would have let me go on scratch the couch instead.
I'm not sure what would happen if I ever started ignoring mom, but my thoughts on the matter are "What if the shaky can noise is just the beginning? What if the next step is vacuuming me up! Noooo!"
Wow that is a really bad reaction! Cat bites are the worst. We have so much lovely bacteria in our teeth and claws. I scratch Renie ALL the time and I bite at her sometimes when I'm really irritated but I never break the skin. I give "leave me alone" bites as a warning. Renie has gotten scratched at work too (mostly by dogs and not cats) and some of those have gotten somewhat infected, but nothing really bad. Thankfully she hasn't gotten bitten at work yet!
Legolas - your mom can also try hissing. I know when I start getting a little too agressive in my play, my dad just turns to me and hisses. Since he is a much bigger "cat" than I am, I back off immediately. He found this out after the spray bottle and shouting "NO!" failed...
great advice. Too bad that mom read it too, so she hissed at me this afternoon when I was trying to lick off my flea preventive (some of it dripped down and I tried to lick it off me!). I could have sworn there was 10 ft tall cat in the room instead of mommy!
Wow! Our human grandma's cat bit her a couple of years ago and she had to go to the hospital. He bit her in the morning and by noon her hand was so swollen & red that she couldn't bend her fingers. They gave her anIV to knock out the infection, but it was months before all the swelling went down. Lucy & I are glad your mommy is getting better.
Oh my goodness!!!! Lucky, Squirrel, Fuzzy and I never bit, but oh boy, did Penny ever bite when she played!!!! What horrible bad luck! We are shocked. We hope it is all over with and your Mom makes a full recovery. You could probably bite her a thousand times more and never have that happen again. But don't test out that theory! We have heard of similar bad things happening from paper cuts. Please GENTLY kiss your Mommy for us.
Poor Legolas. I'm sure you feel bad about hurting your mama. Tell her OWP says "Get Better Soon".
Mama got bit at work one time. A really mean patient bit mama right on the side of her thumb, tween the finger & the nail. Mama said it hurt LOTS. It got infected bad. Finally mama operated on herself (this is NOT RECOMMENDED.) (Kids, do NOT try this at home). One day at work mama got some local anesthetic, sterilized some tools, scrubbed her thumb & operated away. Mama's co worker, Amy, said mama was nutz but mama didn't want to go to the dr -- they would've done the same op'ration & costed lots of money.
Long story short....mama op'rated, infection out, healing began & mama's thumb got fine.
Legolas mama? Don't op'rate on your own leg. Prob'ly not a good idea.
To OWP:
Don't worry! Mommy isn't keen on doing her own medical work! Although she's a teacher and has seen it all, she prefers a doctor to her own handiwork! Mommy is thankful for the school RN who told her to go to the hosptial Right Now. Mommy's leg looks better but it burns and burns and burns. Poor Mommy! I try to rub cat tail on it, but she still is in so much pain. She's putting aloe vera on it and it helps a little bit. She goes to the doctor tomorrow for a check up.
