 | | | | My name is Abby and I'm a brown/tortoiseshell tabby (torbie). I came to the Bridge on December 22, 2005, when I was about 11-12 years old.
Mommy adopted me from a rescue group when I was a little over 3 years old. Sadly, she doesn't know much of my history from before then, other than that I had spent almost all of my early years in shelters and that I'd had one litter of kittens.
In spring-summer of 2005, I began to get bizarre symptoms like black discharge from my ears, runny nose and eyes and headaches. My vet couldn't diagnose what was wrong and thought it was allergies. Mommy took me to other vets but no one could figure it out. My blood tests and exams showed nothing wrong. But mommy knew something was very wrong.
In November 2005 I started to have trouble eating and swallowing. More tests were done. Then in early December, my stomach grew large. Mommy went to a new vet. After xrays, ultrasound, aspiration of fluids in my tummy, etc., I was diagnosed with cancer. The mass lesions were everywhere: in all of my internal organs and lymph nodes and throat. The vet said it was too late. So did the oncologist. They said I couldn't handle chemo. Mommy waited until she could see I was in agony and then let me go, 16 days after my diagnosis.
Mommy wonders why no vet could find my cancer earlier, esp. when I had symptoms and mommy knew something was wrong. | | | | |
