Hi, we're new to the group. 6 cats, 2 more cats that belongs to my sister, and 1250 sq. ft. house along with a dog, and 10 fish, 2 kids and 2 adults. 7 litter boxes all in the basement. Husband does the litter boxes since we have very young children.

Hi, I am the youngest of 6, Cat Street Boyz. We also have 2 Royal standard poodles, 8 humans in a 3,300 house. This spring/summer our humans will be screening in the new deck which is 9 1/2 feet high, so we can play safely out there and before winter they hope to glass it in. We have catwalks up the wall, in the familyroom, which can be viewed on Toy's page and spiral stairs leading to the top floor with a cat area plus a cat ledge to spy on everything. Mom just purchased a purrforma automatic cat pan and loves it. We don't like stepping in each other's poo...YUCK! later, Tyco

Proper Potty Placement

Before you place my litterbox in s that are most convenient for you, try thinking in my perspective. If you are only six inches tall, would you want to climb the equivalent of Mr. Everest (your stairs) and walk the 9-mile hallway to get to the third floor's back bedroom? It might as well be Siberia.
Although your basement keeps my litterbox hidden from guests, it also encourages me to have accidents when I do not want to make the effort (say just waking up from my nap in your bed). Instead, place my litterbox in an easily-accessible spot, away from my food and free from obstacles. If I have a high-hurdle a baby gate or if I fear being eaten by a dog every time I need to potty, I I will think "Why bother?"
The best spot to place my litterbox is in a convenient, quiet spot away from high-traffic areas, that I can have access to it at all times. If we live in a multi-story house, I should have an appropriate potty place on each florr. Three litterboxes lined up in the laundry room is equivalent to one big one.
If you choose the basement ove the first-floor powder room because you don't want guests to smell my litterbox, remember that, "if you clean it more often, you won't have to smell it either. In fact when my litterbox is dirty, this is the No. 1 reason why I sould outside of it. In my experience, cleanliness is even more important than my litterbox location of type.

Wow....if I only had two cats, I would be in HEAVEN....however, I chose to resuce many, many, many after Hurricane Andrew and still have 14 with me.....and....even though I would NEVER take anymore in (I have found others and gotten them homes), I have a responsibility to all the "old" babies I still have with me. 14......just lost three in the last 6 months....used to bre 17 when I moved from Miami to Jacksonville, Florida.

I will be back to tell you HORROR stories about what I have had to go through because I have never owned a home....just rented....and WOW....if any of you rent that have more than 2 or 3 cats....I think you know where I will be going.

Oh yes, I have a three bedroom house....with no screen porch....they all loved the screen porch in Miami, but don't have one here. It is a VERY old house, but "God" found it for me when I was almost kicked out of my last rented apartment because the owner sold the building and the new owner said....either give all of them away but two....or move. Yeah, right....like everyone wants to adopt kitties who are over 10....up to 17.

Be back soon....and just LOVE this forum!!!

Yes Pub it is hard when you are renting. It's almost impossible here to find rental properties where you can have cats. Mummy is lucky, she rents a unit on acreage from a friend of hers and even though the friend is, shall we say, not ecstatic about the five cats, the trade off is that we keep the mice down.
And we do a good job too!
way to go

Yaaaayyyy!!!! We are getting a new house! Mom and Dad just bought a new house with 3,000 + sq. ft. and we are going to be moving in a little over a month from now. We only have a little under 1,000 sq. ft. right now, so it will be a good thing... more room for US!! We just hope Mom and Dad sell this house quickly (with the housing market being like it is). wink

We have 2 cats and 1 human in a large 2 bedroom apartment.

We have 3 litter boxes, and that still doesn't seem like enough for my sister Jessamine!
