My Mom and Dad both got tattoos of my pawprints when I was still on Earth. Well, Dad got wings put on his pawprint and soon Mom will add my name to hers! She can't wait! She wanted to put asphodel around hers, but couldn't find a good picture of one, and there are so many different kinds of that flower. She wanted to make sure she got the one that carries the meaning "My regrets follow you to the grave." And it also comes from this Agnes Repplier quote: "Dear Little Ghost, whose memory has never faded from heart, sleep sweetly in the fields of ashodel, and waken, as of old, to stretch they languid length and purr thy soft contentment to the skies." Aw geez, she can't even type it without getting teary-eyed.

Hopefully you won't think it's too gross, and Mom debated telling you guys, but she's not ashamed: Dad already did and Mom will put a symbolic amount of my ashes in the ink. Just a little bit. In case you're wondering, it's been done before, lots of times, so it's safe. She figured you guys would understand.

You can see Dad's tattoo on my page, and Mom will put hers on there soon as possible!

Why would we think it was gross. I really regret that I didnt have a life gem made from Taz's ashes. If you havent seen this before here is the link http://www.lifegem.com/

It is important that you remember, not how you do it, that is unique for each of us!!!!!!

I think a tattoo is a wonderful idea. I'm actually contemplating my very first. It will be my reward for reaching my weight goal (still have some weight to lose before I get the reward) and will be an Egyptian-style cat. I wish I had Abbie's pawprint, though, because that would be beautiful, too. I kept some of her fur and put it in the box with her ashes, along with her very favorite toy.

My Mom thought about the life gem, too. She was scared that they would just send her any old stone. She's kinda paranoid! Can you believe someone said to her that a life gem would be gross? Whatever, right?

Mom read a few tattoo forums to see if anyone had ever used ashes. She read accounts of people's ideas and responses to those posts. Some people thought ashes are great to use in ink, others accused the original poster of being sick and in desparate need of mental help. You can even make the tattoo pigment entirely out of ashes, but Mom doesn't know who could do it. She's just happy her guy is willing to put the ashes in there.

And a tattoo is a great reward for yourself, Abbie's Mom. Good luck with reaching your target weight!

And thanks for the kind and encouraging remarks, guys. Mom was afraid she might get flamed.

hug

I can understand the "just any stone" concern but you know what, I think even if they sent just any stone it would have the same value to your heart and that is what the remembering is about. I didnt keep Taz's ashes so I cant go and do it now, so I am considering going and buying a really special ring and wearing it in rememberance of her, or a piece of jewelry or something. I dont think it is so important the ashes are part of the stone or the tatoo as it is a way to keep our memories of them with us and symbolizing that.

Oh, we would never flame anyone on here! I'm speaking for others, obviously, without first asking. But my basic feeling is that if we are in this group, we are very deeply-feeling people who have great empathy for one another.

And Taz's mommy... what about a locket? You could find a picture of your sweetie and have it shrunk down to locket size. You could even have her name engraved on it.

I think a peice of jewelry with a picture and/or an engraving is a great idea, Taz's Mom! If you know Taz's b-day (we didn't know Bixit's, and had designated May 22) you could get the stone for that month! But lockets are so wonderful, too. Mom loves lockets, but doesn't have one! thinking

I too have been trying to think of having a special ring created to wear in rememberence of Lexi. Ironically all of my kitties have all been born relatively close (monthwise) to one another.

Lexi - April 1
Loco - April 1
Codi - early May
Gabby - late March

Wouldn't you know it - I think they are all diamonds or aquamarine! The expensive stones!! HAHA. I was thinking like an anniversary ring with a diamond in the middle representing Lexi with a stone for Loco, Codi and Gabby around it.

Anyone else thought of a cool idea I can copy? hehe

I have been thinking about getting a tattoo as well. One that incorporates Harmony and my kitty Ari that passed away at the age of 1.5. (Ari doesn't have a page...I didn't have many digital pictures of him).

There are also some websites that have some cute charm bracelets that have charms with kitties. You could look into getting unique charms for each one of your kitties.

Only a couple more days!! applausedancing

I think birthstones are great! If you're into having multiple ear piercings, you could line 'em up on your ears. But by the time you're an old person you might have a very full ear considering the limited amount of space!

When Mom was thinking about the Life Gems, she thought she'd be afraid to wear me around for fear of losing me! She thought about having me set in a little figurine or something, a little something that could be a keepsake.
