C'mon.....the cuddliest, most intelligent, hardy breed, and nobody wants to talk about 'em?!?!

Lemme tell you, I think I'm impressive to say the least.

My tail should be flown on the tallest of ships.

I can open doors....even without an opposable thumb. Let's see some dumb dog do that!

Ho hum....maybe a nap....after letting everyone around know who's boss!

Hello all!, Yes they are beautiful cats. My Charlie I believe is a Maine coon cat, Im not sure. When he got fixed, the vet listed him as a domesticated short haired cat. Can you believe that ? If you see his pic , he is not! But what he is , lovable toleratable, sweet and a very good breed of cat! cloud 9

Rumbo

Hi!! We're all new to the group. My 10 yr old MC, Rumbo and his 4 feline friends (2 of which are also Maine Coons)
All 5 cats have grown up with each other, but I'm Rumbo's Mom and our other 4 kitties were my moms. Mom passed away suddenly in January. She was only 54. I am now the guardian of all 5 kitties. Some of them are still "acting out" and I know it's because they are still wondering where Mom is.
I love my Rumbo. He is my baby!!! Our other coons are precious as well!!!!! They are the sweetest kitties on earth!!!!

I do have one major issue......MATS!!!!!!!!!!
Arwen is 2 yrs old. Mom was the only one she allowed to touch her mats. Her furr is much different from the other coons. Now that the weather is really hot she is matting so much! I am considering having her shaved? trimmed? but I have never had my cats professionally groomed ....anyone have any advice?????

My sister Sophia is part MC and she gets matted terribly because she won't let Mommy brush her (bites and scratches). So Mommy took her to our vet who suggested a shave down. She gets the LION cut and she LOVES it. When it starts to grow in she gets all cranky until Mommy brings her back for another shave down. They leave her face and ruff and tail and shave all the rest of her body and half way down her legs. It doesn't seem to get as matted afterwards. We let it grow out for winter. I wouldn't want to get shaved but I LOVE getting brushed!kitty

my friend Sugabear got matted and got the lion cut and he looked soooooo funny. He doesn't want to get shaved again, I guess some kitties like it and some don't.

I am lucky, my fur doesn't matt.

Me and my sister Sinder are both part MC and part tabby. Sinder has six toes, which is a trait in many MC's though they're trying to breed it out of them. Both of us have the MC voice, too. Sinder is always talktive and sounds excited while I have a small voice that sounds pathetic compared to my size just like a real MC!

Our fur doesn't get matted and we both love brushing that we get to get all the shedding fur off of us.

She is a chatterbox child and I , despite my large size have a little high voice!!!

We are not polys, but please be aware, there are MC breeders who do breed polys since it is a natural trait of some MCs. They are trying to convince the cat fancy organizations ( CFA and TICA) to allow it as an acceptable part of the breed standard. Here in Maine there are a few foundation breeders who are working on this.

All of us Maine Coons use our paws like hands, but Polys like you can pick things up very very well!!!
Funny aside- when I went to the vet after my Mama got me - I was 16 weeks old- Dr Diana was looking at my huge paws. She counted my fingers 4 times sure since my paws were so big I must be poly!! But no , just HUGE paws. They are huge gentle paws. I try to never scratch, I like having my nails trimmed so I can touch Mama and Daddy with my giant coon paws cloud 9

Wow, Pooh Bear, you've developed a skill I've been working on! If you've got a secret let me know, so I don't have to pester my owner to go out in the garage to play. I'm desperately trying to open doors on my own. I also like to fool my people in games of chase. Awesome!

oooooooh me too, I can open doors. My favorite is the bathroom vanity door. I open it and go inside and wait out thunderstorms.
Mom gets a little peeved that the bath towels are a little fuzzy.......hmphhhh!
