Seamus--way to go! smile So glad you're liking your good, new food. Hope you are still doing well, as your post was about a month ago. I only just now saw it--I'm a slack kitty!

Romeo, PetsMart would most likely have most of the foods mentioned in this forum, I would think. Your vet would have to sell you the Rx food. I would suggest a nice consultation with the vet about diet. But as is stated so often, it's important to find something you will eat well, even if it's not the first choice of the vet! wink

Happy, healthy holidays to all!

My sister just got diagnosed and mom is a bit of a researcher - and she found out that you must feed a CRF cat wet food - we felines need our water everywhere we can get it! Don't necessarily by into the low-protein diet either - natural meats are easier to process and easier on the kidneys than by-product meats. Stay clear of the hard to digest - corn, wheat and soy, too. Mom's going to find and try Mulligan Stew or Weruva for sissy to see if she likes it. It's better to eat regular cat food than to have your cat not eat at all. Good luck kitties - I will keep you updated! way to go

KC, while canned food is better for CRF kitties due to its higher moisture content, Alaidh didn't do well on only canned.

I was taking her to one vet when we moved to BC who told me to put her on only canned, but not only did she not eat enough, her skin got really dry and she was constipated. I became very unhappy with that vet and switched to one I'm very happy with. She told me that if Alaidh likes the dry, to let her graze on it during the day, as well as giving her the canned. Because of the higher oil content in the dry food, her skin condition cleared up almost completely and she had much less trouble with constipation.

So, basically, it all depends on the kitty. And really, if all your CRF kitty will eat is dry, it's certainly better than nothing at all!

I agree it's better to have your cat eat anything than not eat at all. I keep out the dry food during the day and feed them the wet in the am and pm. Every kitty is definately different!

Wysong - do any of you CRF cats eat this? It's very difficult to find but mommy would like to try it because it has better ingredients than the Hill's. I'm super picky too (aren't we all?) so she's not even sure I'll like it. She doesn't want to buy an entire case from Petfooddirect if I won't eat it...
