I thought we could start a thread where we tell each other about our favorite dog parks!

Does anyone know of one in Pacifica/South San Francisco?

DOGGIE HEAVEN....... Ft. Funston! Over 1,000 acres of off-leash romp area on federal property.... oceanside , complete with crazy humans that jump off of the 500 ft. cliffs with these weird-looking wing things (hang gliders)....

This is a MUST GO TO AND SEE! Get on the Great Highway at Golden Gate Park/Ocean Beach. Go south until you get to (?) Skyline Dr. You will see Lake Merced right in front of you. Turn right. Go about one mile and on the right, you will see the sign for Ft. Funston. Go into the driveway, and bare to the right. You cannot miss the HUGE parking lot, and the trails go all the way down to the beach, so tell your humans to take "layers" in case the breeze kicks up (TO THE BONE COLD!). In mid-summer, it is HEAVEN ON EARTH... shorts and tank tops are the fare.cheer

THere is another "Doggie play area" in Golden Gate Park, but I don't remember how to get there... I sniff my way.

snoopy My favorite in San Francisco is Christopher's Playground. It's not enclosed and leash is required. But, there is a big patch of grass that many dogs, including Sophie, runs free on. For those who likes the exercise, there is an access road down to Glen Canyon.

For enclosed dog park, Seal Point in San Mateo is our favorite. There are 2 areas, with one dedicated to small dogs. There are all the amenities you need: poop bags, water, benches (shaded) and even water hydrants. Having a clean and stocked bathroom right there for the humans is a big plus.

For those in the East Bay. There is a great dog park in Union City on seventh street by the BART Station. It is split in two, one area for Big dogs and one for Small dogs, pretty standard. Both areas have drinking fountains for pups and their humans. The small dog area has some agility activities in it with little jumps and hoop things.

There is also a dog park in San Lorenzo, also split into two areas, however, you must go passed a duck pond to get to it. The geese there are mean and have attacked my small Josie on more than one occasion. Once in the dog park fenced area it is fine. Benches to sit on, and water for the pups.

I have seen several beautiful dog parks while driving around Alameda, but I have not had the pleasure to stop at any of them.

Pinole Dog Park

Pinole, CA 94564

It was clean, lots of fun and worth the short drive for us. The dog park area is located behind the baseball and soccer fields in Pinole Valley Park but there is strip of trees in between so even if the kids are playing there is a nice buffer. You can access it via a footbridge behind the first field or if you turn right just before the fire station you can park closer to the dog park area. Seperate area for small dogs. The grass is green with lots of gopher holes, there is fresh water, sun and shade available. We'll definitley be back to play again soon. Hope to see you there!

There are no current doggie parks in ptown, although there is a petition going around right now to get one started.

Not technically a dog park, but the Mission Creek Park is a nice place to walk the pups. http://www.missionbayparks.com/

Douglass is also a nice dog park. Mostly enclosed. But can get muddy and windy up there.

If anyone's reading this, we just posted some pictures from our first trip to Fort Funston, last Sunday. Definitely HEAVEN on EARTH. We can't wait to go back, probably will go again THIS weekend. If you have a water dog, be very cautious. Every year a few dogs get swept out to sea by the treacherous undertow, and every year, a few humans trying to save their pups suffer the same fate. We don't go in past our ankles/knees, and Holly Belle barely gets her toenails wet... This is NOT a swimming beach, but it is absolutely lovely to walk!blue dog
