If it helps others find good recipes for doggy treats, then it's not stupid. If you know any more cooks, invite them to the group and have them post their recipes, and then it won't look like it does.

Here's a recipe for Peanut Butter Dog Treats that Chief just loves. They make him putty in our paws!! snoopy


2 cups whole wheat flour

1 TBSP baking powder

1 cup peanut butter (all natural if you like)

1 cup skim milk

Just as a little extra we add just a few drops of honey or unsulferated molasses



preheat oven to 375



Combine flour & baking powder in large bowl & mix

Combine milk & peanut butter in smaller bowl & mix



Add wet mixture to dry and mix well



Turn mixture onto lightly floured surface and knead. Roll out to ¼ inch thick & cut out shapes



Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly brown. Store in airtight container.



Makes about 20 to 30 dog bones

i'm excited to see recipies with real ingredients! mom got a dog bone recipie book for xmas, but had trouble finding a lot of the ingredients. so far she's only made two types cause she doesnt have the stuff for them. she'll post the puppy biscut recipie once she gets her butt into the kitchen to get it down. anyway, they ask for thinks like rice flour and brewers yeast (still havent found that). she's made a few replacements and they turned out ok. *turns on printer to print the recipies posted here*

Dogsicles

Ingredients:
cat kibbles
chicken or beef broth
1/2 a slice of bread
1 egg
cat milk
bone shaped dog treats
2-4 small containers

1. Add all the ingredients accept the bones and the bread. Shred the bread into pieces the size of your fingernail. Add to the rest of the ingredients. Simmer over low heat for about 5 minutes, stirring twice per minute. When done cooking let cool. There should still be a little water left. Add a bit more broth. Give your pet a taste! Add mixture to the containers, and add a bit more broth over that. Stick the bone in like a handle, and put in the freezer overnight. When ready, unstick and serve. Enjoy!

TRICKY TREATS FOR DOGS
From Three Dog Bakery Cookbook
Makes 14 treats

2 cups water
3/4 cup canned applesauce
1/8 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
3 cups whole-wheat flour
1 cup white flour
1/4 cup chopped nuts
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup oats

Preheat oven to 350 F.

In a bowl, mix water, applesauce, vanilla and egg thoroughly.

In a separate blow, combine flour, nuts, baking powder, nutmeg, and cinnamon, stirring well.

Add wet ingredients to dry and mix well.

Spoon into greased muffin tins, filling each cup completely and bake for about 1 1/4 hours. Cool completely and store in a sealed container.

Dog Liver Brownies

1 pint chicken livers
1 egg
1 c. whole wheat flour
1 c. cornmeal
1 T. olive oil
1 T. garlic powder

Puree livers and their liquid in processor with egg. Add remaining ingredients and process briefly. Pour into greased 9” x 11” pan. Cook 25 to 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Cut into small squares and refrigerate or freeze.

Lazy Turkey Loaf (for dogs)

From PetPlace.com

Makes 6 servings
2 pounds ground turkey
1/2 cup cooked vegetables
1 teaspoon garlic powder*
1 egg
1/2 cup quick-cook barley
1 cup quick-cook oats
4 ounces canned no-fat gravy

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a mixing bowl combine turkey, vegetables, garlic powder, egg, barley and oats. Mix thoroughly. Spoon into a greased loaf pan and pat down meat mixture until level. Spread gravy on top of loaf and bake for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Cool and cut into six even slices.

Store unused portions in refrigerator.

* Garlic powder in small amounts is not considered dangerous to dogs.
