So... I wanted to have a discussion thread for those cats who want to post comments or questions, or whatever, in between our official meetings. Specifically, talk about anything in Finders Seekers, anywhere in the book. So, if you haven't read the entire book, beware of the following posts - they may contain spoilers. I'm so excited, I can't wait for the meeting! I hope other kitties are excited and talk with me here!!

So, I guess you're enjoying the Ghatti talking with each other and their bonds? I think the Ghatti have a pretty "dry" sense of humor.

Ooo... I AM enjoying that! I think it's one of my favorite things about the books - the quick, dry humor and no nonsense attitudes of the ghatti. And how they each compliment or reel in their bondmates. Ha! So, Khar just worfed up a furball where I'm reading, that entire scene, before and after, was great.

What's your favorite ghatti quote/scene? I suppose we should do it by book. I'll have to go back and look at book one. So many from which to choose. Well, my time here this evening is severely limited, so... see you all soon.

I liked the little "grapeskin" scene, where Doyce slipped on a grapeskin when getting off her horse. It was just a small scene, but the "giggles" between Doyce and Kharpern, sharing a joke, was cute.

I also liked the scene where Parm raced into the market square after leaving his bond and found Harrap. Doyce was very secure in knowing how to defend herself and others, and it showed the female bondmates were trained in weapons.

And the final scene at the end of Chapter III, where Parm told Harrap he would do ANYTHING for his new bond, even to the point of humiliating himself, but Harrap accepted Parm as he was.

Tess and I started the book on Saturday and then spent all day yesterday absolutely glued to it!!! We are so enjoying it!

We're just a few pages from Chapter 3 now and after reading about Vesey, we are *very* suspicious. He does seem an obvious suspect now, though, but the book (and the series, for that matter) opens with him dangling the pendant over Briony's cradle. That's hypnotism! Is Vesey trying to hypnotize Doyce--and Khar--through a dream channel? Vesey haunts Doyce's dreams far more than any other person, and after what happened to Saam--his mind powers locked tight inside himself--we wonder if Vesey is coming into Doyce's mind during the night while she sleeps.

The Seeking hearing was very interesting, especially the first one, with the Timors. The preparation, the blocking, the breakthrough. We enjoyed how Khar played with Doyce's boot tassels and tabard, much to the consternation and--despite himself--amusement of the new Chief Conciliator.

What a super book!

I loved the grapeskin thing too, at least Doyce was laughing. I also liked when the kids came in wanting to see the seeker, and the little girl said that older boy killed her kitty, but Doyce took care of it. I also liked going back into Doyce's mind to before she married, then after, and finding out about Vesey and Briony.

Aldo, very clever thinking there.

How many things do I love about this book? Ah, too many to count I think. As for my favorites, I have so many, and many you cats have already mentioned some...

I enjoyed the grapeskin scene, like everycat... I felt like it was our first look into Doyce's character that had a positive and humorous spin to it.

Shortly thereafter, Khar playing with Doyce's sash was priceless... and then "Unperturbed, the ghatta discovered a new object of fascination in the leather tassles on her boots. They, too, swung enchantingly..." I loved this as an insight to Khar's happy, playful side, and it couples nicely with her serious side. I think I also liked this part because, hey, what cat can resist ribbons and tassles? So, we're really not so far off from the Ghatti...

I've enjoyed watching Saam's progress. I love how Mem'now is telling Saam the old stories, relearning the history in falanese. When Saam and he are talking about another tale... Mem'now says to Saam "Yes, I enjoy the sound of my own voice, if that's what you're so politely trying to say..." Falanese is pretty much what we speak, so, again, not so far off, eh?

And honestly, one of my favorite parts I've read in the entire series so far is the story of Khar 'printing on Doyce. Can't you just imagine, a little ghatten rolling around, then bonding with you for life, knowing the ghatten Chose you, and hearing her name for the first time... "Khar...pern"

And my other favorite scene in the first half of the book is the market scene of Parm charging through, upsetting everything in his path, and ending with him 'printing on Harrap. And I must concur with Aragorn, when Parm offers anything for Harrap, for his bond, was fantastic. I thought it illustrated the intense seriousness of bonding and willingness to do anything for one another. I teared up with joy.

Mindwalk if ye will...

Yes, Squeakers, I actually liked the way Greeno set up Doyce's history as well. I felt as though a piece of the puzzle fell into place when we learned about her past family. I'm glad we got a bit of the "present" time mixed with the "past" time - keeps things moving that way!

Sasha,

We really liked the two 'printing scenes as well, Khar/Doyce and Parm/Harrap. We particularly enjoyed Khar/Doyce, perhaps because we learned for the first time, and in detail, how the actual 'printing and bonding works.

Although everykitty loves the grapeskin episode, our favorite thing so far has been Harrap's robes hiking up his body in the midst of Georges Barbet chasing Parm.

Harrap's robe had ridden up, exposing a large, plump, white buttock. The total irrelevancy of her thought transfixed Doyce; the age-old question that generations of children whispered when they felt daring: What does a Shepherd wear under his robe? The answer stared her in the face, and her giggle degenerated into a choked-off moan. A new moon on the Lady's horizon! Indeed, a full moon! Lady forgive!

We must say that we continue to be surprised at the level of primitiveness of the society. The Plumbs seem to have destroyed all technology and the people were never able to recover. After 187 years, that's just an awful long time!

We're haven't finished the book yet so we're throwing this out as a question. Why were the Gleaners immediately cast as the enemy? Their powers never allowed them to do good, only harm? If Mahafny sent her daughter to the Research Hospice, so she could learn to shape her "talent," why wasn't Jenret's brother Jared sent, or any of the other Gleaners? Since the eumedicos have lost their mindtrancing abilities, seems as though they would try learning a thing or two from the Gleaners. Hmm... wonder what the eumedicos experimented with on Calvert Tipton. How many Seekers would volunteer for research and testing?

We took a break yesterday from our reading so we better get back to it!!! laugh out loud))

Regarding the Gleaners, it's my impression that "what you don't know, you are afraid of."

And with Jared, I assume his parents felt that sending him to the eumedicos would be sending him to be experimented on. I get the sense that the eumedicos are looked upon as scientists, experimenting on people, and try to avoid them if at all possible.
