 Chinchilla Kitty |
| Purred: Thu Feb 8, '07 7:46pm PST | | | | | | I'm pretty new to posting around here, and when I saw this group I thought of a story I would like to share. I don't know if any other cat has had a story like this, but I'm a little overwhelmed by the 28 other pages of posts to read back and find out. It's not really my story, but my Mom's, because it happened before I was born. But it's about a very brave kitty.
Years ago, my Mom had a very large kitty named CB that she loved very much. He wasn't fat, but he was very long and very tall and very strong. At the time my Mom lived with her very own Mom in a big house with a really big lawn that was near some big woods. The cats in the family were indoor/outdoor cats, and they loved roaming around and hunting and protecting the family from other cats, mice, moles, woodchucks, birds, and many other creatures that ventured into the yard. CB was the best hunter of all. He was an orange tabby kitty, and Mom often said he carried himself like a lion.
My Mom and her Mom had a garden, but they didn't get to keep very much of what grew there because all the forest creatures would come and eat everything. But they didn't really mind. There were also fruit trees in the back where *gasp* vishus deer liked to congregate and eat the apples and pears that fell to the ground. At the time, my Mom did not know that deer could be vishus to young kitties. But she soon found out that some cats at least, viewed deer as a threat.
For reasons unknown, Mom and her Mom liked to watch the deer in the yard. One day they were out in the garden, and noticed the deer eating at the fruit trees. Mom and Grandma were very still and quiet as they watched a Mama deer and her fawn eating the fruit. All of a sudden, the deer looked up, startled, and ran into the woods with their white tails high up in the air. Grandma said "something must have spooked them." Just then, they saw an orange blur racing across the yard. CB was in HOT PURSUIT of the deer! Mom said "He really thinks he's a lion!!" He didn't catch them at that time because they had a head start on him and disappeared into the woods, probably with some type of vishus magical ability.
I will say that a few years later, CB went off on a hunt and never returned. We can't say for sure what finally got him, but I have a few theories.
I think we can all agree that CB was one of the bravest kitties ever. Like I said, I didn't read back over all the posts on this forum because there were so many, so I don't know if another kitty has shared a story like this. I'm sure CB isn't the only brave kitty out there, but he's the one I know the most about. | | | | |

| Purred: Tue Feb 27, '07 5:50pm PST | | | | | | I know it's off topic, but is there room here for a story about a cat and a bear? Here is the true story my human put in her blog:
"Jack is a 10 year old cat who lives in the rural town of West Milford, NJ. He doesn't like people much and generally earns his keep by patrolling his family's yard and that of two neighboring homes.
Back in September, Jack's neighbor was looking outside her back window and saw him on the ground, looking up at a treed bear. According to the Newark Star Ledger, she thought, "aw, look at the kitty staring up at the bear!" Then she noticed the bear was looking nervously down at the 15-pound cat.
The bear finally got up enough courage to inch down the tree and jump down. Jack took chase into the woods and treed the bear once again. The bear was rescued, kind of, when Jack's person called him back to the house. Reportedly, the orange tabby sauntered back home and rubbed against the amazed neighbors who'd stopped by to see what the fuss was about.
By explanation, his mom said, "He doesn't want anybody in his yard."
Just goes to show what you can do with an intimidating stare. Jack has no claws."
There was also a picture showing the big bear high up in the tree, with this small orange cat sitting on the ground, looking up!
Sounds like maybe Jack has the spirit of CB in him. I'll bet he would take care of those vishus deer with one paw tied behind his back!!!Edited by author Tue Feb 27, '07 5:52pm PST

| Purred: Tue Mar 6, '07 3:02pm PST | | | | | | I saw 7 vichus deer girls in my own backyard today. One of them spotted me sitting in the window. It turned and lifted its tail. The others took off into the woods. I took off myself to hide in the closet! Mad -Pennsylvania Vichus Deer Patrol | | | | |

| Purred: Sat Apr 7, '07 12:08pm PST | | | | | | Warning: siting of vishus deer on the Isle of Wight in human Grandmother's garden. May only be plastic but has struck terror into the heart of Mao and I. Thought we were safe on an island. Have vishus deer learned to ride boats? Is this a warning? Should I phone the local government?
