Hi everyone! I recently went to a groomer to inquire about Cotton's undercoat. I have found there is some slight matting. So when telling the groomer this, she suggested shaving the doggie and starting anew. I thought this a little drastic since he only really has some matting in the neck area. So I wanted to find out from others what they do to keep the coat mat free and smooth. Is it suggested to shave him? He is 10-months old and I thought if his entire coat was shaved, his hair would come back rather rough and tight like a sheep. Please advise. Thanks. Signed Cotton's mama. Cotton is sleeping and decided to give mama the writing duties. smile

Hi Cotton:

There should be no reason to shave down you bichon puppy especially since there's just a few mats. I would definitely find another groomer who knows and will take the time to properly groom Cotton.

It is very important that you brush and comb Cotton to keep his coat free of mats. I use a slicker brush and a long teeth comb.
