Strange trifecta of symptoms - vets are puzzled

This forum is for cat lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your cat.

If you haven't already, I would ask for a CBC and Wellness blood panel, and insist, it be sent to Antech. They have internal medicine specialist there, that work with your vet, to help diagnose the prob, and help with recommending the treatment. I would also ask for 2 x-rays, one from the side, which is the norm, and one from the top, it shows more.

It may be she is constipated, or has urinary issues. What do you feed?

Depending on what the blood panel and the x-ray shows, you might want to get an ultrasound.

The specialist at Antech saved Smokey's life. He told my vet to take an x-ray from the top, when the one from the side showed nothing. Then he said to send her on an ER basis, to get an ultrasound, it showed she had liver issues.

Hi;
If it was me I would get a referral to an internal medicine specialist before the ultrasound not after. Reason being is that ultrasounds are very subjective. If you look at the screen when they are doing one it is just different shades of grey and shapes etc. Very hard to tell what you are looking at. Wouldn't you rather have someone reading the ultrasound that does 200 a week, than someone who does 10 a week.

All right, we had an ultrasound yesterday. The good news is that she doesn't have a tumor. The bad news is that she's had an infection around her kidney and bladder. So, she's back on antibiotics and I have pain meds for her. They'll do a culture on her urine and some other tests to know if they should up the dosage.

Now I believe that the straining was pain to pee, when I thought she was straining to poop. I bet the pooping outside the litterbox has been accidents when trying to pee.

So, problem probably solved. Thank you all for your support and concern. Cats rule. kitty
