"Pollution, pollution
Wear a gas mask and a veil
Then you can breathe
Long as you don't inhale."

Anyone who doesn't recognize these lyrics is a lot younger than I am.

I'm WAY under my limit I should have at least 1 since I'm 21 so by the time I'm 24 I think having 2 would be awesome.

By this table of calculations, I should be 204 years old. Please note that most of the cats are kittens who are looking for new homes.

chibi...i guess i'm a lot younger than you are...except i'm only like, twelve years younger than you or something, so i really wonder why i don't recognize that.
unless...would this be from a children's book about pollution? i have a vague memory...all the animals got in a spaceship and went to another planet because mankind had made it hard to breathe here on earth. this is from the 70s, so i don't understand how you would have been exposed. actually i think it was from a book that my mother got because she was an educator-tim and i got to "test-read" all sorts of strange things.

No, Tom Lehrer. There's a YouTube video of him singing this song. He was a very talented and interesting individual.

barbapapa's ark was the cool book with the environmentally scary message that so horrified and enthralled me as a seven year old. just to clarify...

Tom Lehrer also had a song about the Boston subway/trolley transit system that he borrowed from the Kingston Trio. Why anybody would get so worked up about having to spend a dime or a nickel on public transportation, I have no idea (yes,I realize that in those days a dime or a nickel were worth more than they are now).

"To: The MBTA
As stated in the song "The Man Who Never Returned" by the Kingston Trio, there is a man named Charlie Who On a tragic and fateful day;
put ten cents in his pocket,
Kissed his wife and family,
And Went to ride on the M. T. A.

But did he ever return?
No, he never returned,
And his fate is still unlearned.
He may ride forever 'neath the streets of Boston,
He's the man who never returned.

Charlie handed in his dime
At the Kendall Square station,
And he changed for Jamaica Plain.
When he got there the conductor told him,
"One more nickel."
Charlie couldn't get off of that train.

But did he ever return
No, he never returned,
And his fate is still unlearned.
He may ride forever 'neath the streets of Boston,
He's the man who never returned.

All night long Charlie rides through the station,
Crying, "What will become of me?
How can I afford to see my sister in Chelsea
Or my cousin in Roxbury?"

But did he ever return
No, he never returned,
And his fate is still unlearned.
He may ride forever 'neath the streets of Boston,
He's the man who never returned.

Charlie's wife goes down
To the Scully Square station
Every day at a quarter past two.
And through the open window
She hands Charlie a sandwich
As the train comes rumbling through.

But did he ever return
No, he never returned,
And his fate is still unlearned.
He may ride forever 'neath the streets of Boston,
He's the man who never returned.

I don't know how or why I learned this song in elementary school, but coming from a largely rural district with zero public transportation, I think I was fascinated by the idea of a subway. I haven't been to Boston for more than a decade, but I suspect that it costs a lot more now than a dime--and that tokens or subway passes are used.

Sorry, this has nothing to do with cats...

Speaking of Crazy Cat Ladies--check out the article about the cat hoarder. Obscene. But at least she seems to regret her behavior.
