Merlin, we agree wholeheartedly. If there was a "pets and people' section, mommy would feel better if we ever had to travel with her. Luckily, we don't right now.
Mommy has a flight attendant friend, who's told her some stories about cargo. Firstly, airlines care about making money, and keeping the passengers safe, and thats it. Pets are posessions, baggage to them. The airlines 'abide' but rules, but some more than others. They do what they have to in order to comply with whatever regulations there are, and then some. Many of the vets the airlines use for investigations into what happens if an animal is injured or dies are being paid by them...so what does that tell you?

maybe every flight that has animals in the cargo compartment should have a person back there with them, keeping watch and keeping them company. that would also mean the cabin would have to be kept pressurized and the temperature constant-i've heard that can get variable in the cargo section, which has to be stressful for animals. just a thought.
