Reading this post and the other horrible one on here at the moment about animal cruelty it's made me so upset. I've just got my two in and gave them a big kiss and cuddle. I don't know what I would do if somebody didn't anything to my two.

It's so upsetting.

THis is a horrible incident to hear about! I'm in no way am I saying this madman is right. But, people should keep their cats indoors. HEELLLLLOOO PEOPLE THEY'RE DOMESTIC CATS- NOT TIGERS, THEY DON'T NEED THE OUTSIDE, THEY MAY WANT IT, BUT DON'T NEED IT!
IT is CRUEL TO LET CATS GO OUTSIDE! When will that message ever get absorbed? It's not medieval times- cats can kill mice but shouldn't be used for that. They're Companions to us. Whether you live in the country or the city it's dangerous either way. In the city-buses, trains, cars, commotion. In the country-bears, ticks, wildlife. If you really care about your cats- and consider them pets/companions you will not let them roam outside or kill mice. I don't even let my house cats kill bugs that come into my home. Even if you have a yard, your cat can jump and climb and shouldn't be left out there without your supervision. They can run away or drown in your pool. Even on the front porch- they shouldn't be left out there without your supervision. And, definitely should not be left to roam on balconies-they can get into serious accidents from falling.

The main issue is, that they can get things from the outside and those of you who do let your cats roam outside are not very responsible because they can come back sick & hurt and get all kinds of diseases & parasites. That man is a sicko and he should be burned! However, Responsible pet owners don't have to deal with problems like this.

Oh as for, Stray cats who have no other option but to be outside, there should be some law that protects strays who live outside. Just because an animal is a stray doesn't make it right to be some madman's victim.

Sorry Sabrina I have to disagree. Both my cats go outside and if I don't let them they get VERY depressed. They are really good cats, they play in our garden, the grass behind our house and the grass in front of our house. I can always see them. They also spend a lot of their time in the house. They know that at 7 it's bed time and they don't go out after that. I think it would be cruel of me to keep them in.

Wow I poted this back in Nov.

But glad to see the responces on this matter. I to let my cats out and I have been here 4 years and I do worry about them I like to see them at least once a day. I do not think that they go far. When I call them they usually come running. At frist when I read that we need to bring them in I thought perhaps I should then I thougth Naw there is nothing worng with them being out and I pray to never have problems. I got them all there shots and they are all fixed and they love to be outside. I do think making them stay in now would cause problems for them and depression may set in they just love it out there. And the meowing will never stop turst me they wake me up at night to go out and that is not very nice of them but then do not understand that they are doing that. They will jump on me and meow in my face ect... hello let me out... Now when I frist came here I did not know about feline Lukima and one of my cats got it and it was awful to say the least but I have learned from that. I have learned a lot being I have so meany cats now and dogs.

So I am ok with them being out. Everyone is happy..

Mz Isis.

Well, I am sorry if I seemed offensive or too harsh about the topic.I don't mean to be. I just have strong opinions about it. Mommy has seen too many bad things happen to animals & not enough caring people. The other day mommy was coming home from grocery shopping with daddy. Now, we live in a 4 story apartment building. Mommy heard a mewing from up above. She looked up & saw a kitten on the 4th floor balcony, poking his/her little head in & out of the balcony bars! That made mommy so nervous...she thought he was going to fall & seriously hurt himself, so she stood underneath the balcony so just in case the kitten fell; mommy would catch him.

Meanwhile, daddy went upstairs to let the owner know. The owner was a rude lady. She acted annoyed by daddy telling her about her kitty. She also told daddy "He does that all the time, he'll be ok. He knows what he's doing." She didn't even say "Thank You" & slammed the door in daddy's face.

Well, I said to myself I wonder if she had children( she's an older lady & thank god does not have small children living with her) would she/did she-- let her children hang off the balcony; and then defend herself by telling a concerned neighbor that a 2yr old or 5 yr old child knows what he's doing??? I cease to believe that an animal or child knows what they're doing. Even if an animal or child does something all the time and nothing ever happens, there's always that god forsaken one time where something tragic could happen; and that's all you need is once for something very bad to happen.

I get a bit outspoken at times, but I really don't mean to offend anybody. This is just the way I have and always will think about the cats going outdoors issue. It just seems to me that many of you just let your cats out because it is too difficult or too much of a bother to just let them meow, and train them not to go out. I realize training a cat is hard, but you're the owner your supposed to be in charge of preventing things from happening to them (just like a parent-child) relationship. I'm sure those of you who are parents would not let your children stay out all night & come home whenever they want to. Doing that would be raising undisciplined, spoiled children. Just like with cats- your cats are not trained well, if at all and are very spoiled. Who's in charge? Obviously your making your cats be in charge, if there waking you up all times of the night to be let outside. Prayers are good to have, but Faith is no substitute for Prevention. But, if you don't let your kids go out anytime they want & you keep your cats strictly indoors, then you don't have to sit there late at night worrying & praying.

However, I hope those of you who do let your cats outside are thoughtful enough to at least get them microchipped??? That as well as getting update shots, spay/neuter are 3 life savers for pets. My indoor cats are microchipped, just in case a fire broke out in my apartment building while I was at work--I'd be able to find them again, because they would run out because of the firefighters breaking the door down.

I have to say I agree with Sabrina. I know it IS difficult to keep cats in, especially after they've seen the outdoors (how ya goin' keep 'em down on the farm....) but I too have seen and heard too many horror stories which I shall refrain from posting.

But especially those of us in urban areas, if there is any dogfighting that goes on in your area, KEEP YOUR SMALL ANIMALS INSIDE!!!

And I agree that if an animal is outside they should MOST DEFINITELY be spayed and neutered!!!!!

We're outdoors and indoors, and I personally (Elizabeth) feel that cats should have outdoors if they want it and are good about cars (ie run away from them). But I'm 14. I also feel that having Tai just indoors probably would have rendered him completely unmanageable by now- it really stressed him out.
Oh- and the little guy on the balcony, Mags would add that she fell off a balcony once. Definitely a place to supervise, she ran into the downstairs neighbors (this was before I was born, Mom and Dad lived in an apartment) and hid.
