Hey 6 months is a little young to change to an adult food. Kittens still have quite a bit of growing to do between 6 and 12 months. Adult foods are typically not formulated for growth...some are so check the label. I started mixing adult food in with my threes kitten dry when they were about 9 months old. They are 10 months old now and still eating a mix of kitten and adult dry. They get adult wet food. Hope that helps smile

mine are VERY good eaters as well - Noah and Allie will eat anything/any kind of food - lizzy doesnt like 'chunky' food.

i was thinking about doing that regarding the wet food - did you start out twice a wk then gradually go from there? how quickly did you transition them to adult wet food?

sorry for all the questions -- i appreciate your help! im new to the cat/kitten mommy world! kitty

You can start kittens on adult food at 8 months. You have to trans them over 2 weeks. The first week you grad increase the new food, at the end of the first week, you should be at a 50/50 ratio. The second week, you grad decrease the old food.

Kittens have very sensative little systems. Sometimes they experience tummy upset/diarea, some do, some don't. If this happens, contact your vet, and stay at the ratio you are at, until it stops, or your vet tells you to do something different.

The first time I trans mine, I was barely started and they had diarea. I called my vet, she said keep them on the kitten food, and try again in a month. That time, I was more than 3/4 of the way, they got diarea again, this time, she said keep going.

I have my own personal experience to share. Daddy brought home a new kitten. She was about 5 months old give or take. So there was this kitten who was 5 months old, myself and 'Bitz who were 3 years old and Hoot that was about 13 years old. Daddy fed 'Bitz and I adult food. Hoot was getting senior food and the new one, Swiffer was getting kitten food. All of us liked the kitten food more than the adult foods and Swiffer liked our food better. We would sneak around trying to gobble up all of the food from each other's bowls. Daddy was going crazy. After a couple of months Daddy called the vet and told the vet the situation. The vet told daddy to put us all on the adult formulas of Nutro we were currently eating. Doc told him to transition all of us over for 2 weeks. 'Bitz and I were insulted because we didn't get a new kind of food. We were already on the adult formula but Hoot and Swiffer each got new food. Daddy did the transition, Swiffer grew like a weed and we're all happy cats now.

There are lots of all ages cat foods out there for houses with cats of different ages. Since mom didn't have any other cats when she found me and my brothers, she fed us all kitten food. smile

She gave us adult wet food once a week and waited to see how our stomachs would handle it. We also got wet food that was for all ages, so we were getting other wet food too. Mom thinks a diet of both wet and dry is best for us.
