GO!

just rescued a new kitten.. advice on introducing to our 1 yr old cats!

Got a new, young, furry love in your life? This is the place for you to ask all of your questions - big or small! Just remember that you are receiving advice from other cat owners and lovers... not professionals. If you have a major problem, always seek the advice of a vet or behaviorist! Most important is to remember to have fun with your new fur baby.

we were dropping off some donations like we usually do once a month at the shelter we adopted Dexter and Preston from.. Well we ened up coming home with Nala lol. she is 3.5 months and such a sweetie pie. Dexter and Preston arent so sure about their new little sister though. we have her separated in a "safe room" with her litter box and food and a bed and such.. we also put one of Dex and Prestons blankets in there for her to smell. I rubbed her down with a fleece recieving blanket and gave it to Dexter and Preston so they can smell her scent too. they are going up to the door and hissing and growling though.. I know it is normal though, but i just want to make sure im doing all i can to make the transition smooth for all 3 of them and help them become friends. Nala just wants to come out and play with her big brothers. any tips or advice would be wonderful! thankyou!

hm you sound like me! Smithwick just couldn't stay outside, he was too little! You are on the right track I think. Just go slow with the introductions, and it should be ok. Even Maizy will play with Smitty a little now. Just make sure the visits are supervised until you are sure there will be no fights.

It does sound like you are doing the right things. I would also trim everyone's toe nails before you introduce them. But my Brofur's and Sisfur, still do not like me much and it has been since July 3rd frown
Good luck and take your time.

Thank you for your replies! This weekend we started to do 10 min face to face introductions every couple hours. By yesterday they were playing all together and Dexter and Preston were grooming her! they are now both sleping right next to her while shes sleeping in her little princess bed. If i walk in the room then stand up quick and block her till they see who came in. They are being protective big brothers already!! lol

Yay! Sounds like when Boris met Gracie. Boris went through a whole phase where he was very upset about having another cat live with him. Lasted maybe 3 days tops. They were already warming up to each other when they both had a kitty virus of some sort (probably a Herpes flareup, they do get that when they're stressed), and the indignity of landing at the vet at the same time just gave them a push to bond. laugh out loud laugh out loud

They've been inseparable ever since, and they pretty much soothe one another. When Boris was big and Gracie was a kitten he was all "big brotherly". Now that she's 2 1/2 and he's 4, she kinda "moms" him, and he sort of lets her: he acts as if he's just putting up with it, but deep down, as far as Boris is concerned, there's no such thing as being "mommed" enough. He loves attention, wherever he can get it from big laugh
