My kitten is 12 weeks old and she will not touch wet food. I have tried science diet kitten, iam's kitten, fancy feast kitten, and whiska's in the pouch. She will eat her Royal Canine kitten 36 and purina kitten chow with no issues. But i'm worried she is not getting enough hydration. I leave water down 24hours a day and change it 2 times each day. I also give her the whiska's cat milk. What should i do to ensure she stays hydrated? and has a balanced diet?
I have also tried mixing her dry & wet she just shakes her paw at it and looks at me like i'm nuts.

Try using meat flavored baby food. Beech Nut and Gerber make beef, turkey, and chicken flavors. Just makes sure its just the meat and the broth. This will get her used to the consistancy. That's what meowmy did fur my sisfur and it worked! Daphne likes the consistancy and the only food that she has found that resembles baby food consistancy is Dick Van Patten's Naural Balance. The process may take awhile but it worked on the world's most stubborn kitty MOL. big laugh

Several of mine never really had wet food until they were older, so not something to worry too much about. You could also try something in the middle like a little tuna. But not drinking water would be a much bigger deal...thats where they should be getting their hydration

I'm having the same problem with my kitten. She just doesn't seem to recognize wet food as, well, food! I'd prefer to feed her a mostly wet diet, and get her off the Kibble Krack asap. Try putting a little food on your finger, too, and let her lick it off.

I even bought some of those 95% meat cans, thinking those might entice her to just TRY it but no goods. She totally ignores 'em.

So far, no luck with mine, but that baby food idea sounds interesting... gonna try that!

Aw, how opposite of Kevin! He isn't picky in the slightest.

He tries to eat EVERYTHING. Wet food, dry food, bread, sandwiches, pizza, tacos.
I obviously try not to let him get a hold of anything bad for him, but he's really good at sneaking up to a plate, grabbing and running. I think he was a stray for the first 6 wks of his life (we got him when he was about that age) so that might have to do with his obsession!

Though I have noticed that he really likes to play with his food.
Although it might be hard with wet food, you can try to incorporate some sort of game with the food! Like, maybe you could coat a toy with it and have the kitten play in a non-carpeted area? As it tries to "catch" the toy, it will bite down, taste it, and incorporate that taste with the smell of the food, so if your kitten deems it tasty, it might be more willing to eat it next time.

I have no idea how that will work, just an idea!

You could also try a feeding schedule if you haven't already!

Good luck!

Stella- Felinis--Queen- of All Kitties!

It's Stella. We think it depends on what you got when you first got solid foods. Because we were all ferals, but cared for, we got dry cat food with the grownup kitties, and KMR. When we got older, we wouldn't touch any kind of wet cat food or really any kind of people food. Delyte who was a stray kitten eating out of dumpsters and having people feed him leftovers, will eat anything and prefers wet cat food to dry. Us three grown-up feral kittens are just now starting to think about eating wet food or people food but of course Delyte wants it all for himself. When he leaves for the Bridge, the dynamic will change in here. Then it will be Queenie who eats all the people food, but Fluff and I still will eat mainly dry.

You sure can't force a cat to eat!

couple things I"ve tried ...
putting a little kibble on bed of wet food so they get a little wet in when getting the kibble out and getting used to the texture.. or putting a little kitty tuna on top to get them interested
