Cat treats?

This is the place to share your best homemade cat food and treat recipes with each other! Remember to use caution if your pet has allergies and to make any diet changes gradually so that your cat's stomach can adjust to the new foods you are introducing.

Technically I have pigs, disguised as cats. Therefore they take everything as a treat. They do have some favorites, though.

Cooked egg whites make a good treat that's high in protein and (supposedly) easy to digest. I usually just give them a little when we hard boil eggs for ourselves, but you could scramble them with a SMALL amount of vegetable oil too. If your cats like veggies you could throw some of those in there, just be sure to cook them well or they'll just pass right through their system (also avoid onions, garlic, and tomatoes). You could put some meat in there, too. Hmm, this is sounding better than what I eat laugh out loud

My cats also really like plain yogurt. They are lactose intolerant so you wouldn't want to overdo it, but a wee bit is probably fine (the live cultures couldn't hurt, either).

Cottage cheese is popular, also.

I would guess you could even make your cats a nutritious meat soup with some vegetables or even a small amount of brown rice.

Just keep in mind all this should be fed in VERY SMALL AMOUNTS.

(replying to the first couple posts) i'd recommend not feeding your kitties too much tuna. Although a little does no harm, our poop STINKS!!!!!! Mommy gave me a bit of tuna and my poop stunk up the house for a week, Mommy wasn't too pleased...anyway no more tuna for us, but we love raw chicken!

my cats love sushi grade tuna, salmon, yellowfish, or any fish that is raw or boiled. they also like smoked salmon.
On rare occasions I give them a fingerful of laughing cow swiss cheese. i dab some on my hand and let them lick it. they love it, even more than their fish treats.

My cats love katsuobushi, and also niboshi, tiny dried sardines that are used to make soup stock and as a human snack. The niboshi are pretty salty, and I wouldn't recommend using them as a daily treat. My cats also go crazy for freeze-dried white chicken meat--great for when you're on a trip with your cat or at a cat show.
