Hi all,

I'm new here, and I'm having trouble with the litter box. I am wondering if anyone has found a really good air purifier that actually neutralizes odors? Anything else that really works?
I'm looking for something to get rid of the odor, not just cover it up with something else.
I have found a decent cat litter, but it still smells up the whole apartment when he goes. His food also smells a lot when I put that out.

I was looking at the Electrolux air cleaners, which are expensive, but I'll get that if it actually works.

I may have to move soon, into an even smaller place, so I REALLY need something that works well. Any ideas for neutralizing odors would be very much appreciated!
(I currently have baking soda out, as well as mixed into the litter, I have the fan running in the bathroom where the litter box is, and I spray Method brand air freshener, but I need a stronger solution.)

Thank you so much!

How are you cleaning the litter box? We find using dishwashing liquid first, then rinse well and then bleach and rinse again. Helps keep down odors. Since you live in an apartment, it may be difficult to rinse out the litter box. Try this, empty all the litter into a plastic grocery bag and throw it away. Use some disenfectant cleaning wipes i.e. Clorox to wipe out the box and let it dry.

This tip comes from those of us who had to deal with the stench of mildew and mold following Hurricane Katrina. Get some activated charcoal (type used in aquarium filters). Put it into a paper or foam bowl and put it out in the bathroo. The charcoal helps to asorb odors. If you are afraid of the cat trying to get into the charcoal....another tip......get a cheap plastic container with a lid....punch holes in the lid and put the charcoal in that. Hope this is of some help. Also, can you open windows in your apartment when you are home......fresh air is always good too.

Good Luck.....

Hi,

Thanks for the tips. I do do the emptying thing, and wipe it down, though I could do it more thoroughly.
The activated charcoal is a good idea. I'll give that a try.

I just picked up some Clear The Air. I'm trying that, so we'll see how it does. The woman at Petco said it was very good. She swears by it.
