GO!

Send good thoughts to Terri please!

This is a special place for cats to share their love and support for each other during difficult times; it's a place to light candles, give a "get well purr" and let everyfur know they are never ever alone.

so I just heard from my mother that my very old (18) cat, terri, has a tumor on her back that needs to be removed. The vet things its a reaction to getting shots there a lot in the past. After observing it for a week, it was growing so he needs to remove it and says its pretty common.

What I'm afraid of is her going under anathesia. Even if they remove it succesfully, I know that some cars don't do well with thus and just never wake up. I'm just so scared, we've had her since I was in 2nd grade, and I've been graduated from college for 4 years now . My mother let us get a kitten when our dad passed away, and I feel like she watched my brother and I grow up and look out for us for our dad. She lives with my mom since she was too old to make a stressful move to a tiny new York apt, when she could be queen of the house and always have company with my mom and stepdad in Texas. I ask about her everyday when I talk to my mom. Phil is my baby here, but Terri will always be my big baby away from me.

Please wish her luck and safe return in her surgery Friday. She's in my friends list or you can find her as Terri Bradshaw on catster, since my mother has her account, not I. She is grateful for. Your well wishes, and so am I!!!

Your vet should be doing bloodwork on Terri before her surgery. Among other things, they need to check her kidney values and her clotting time. We had a 17 y.o. kitty that had a nasty abscess near the base of her tail and they anesthetized her so they could clean it up. The kidneys have to rid the body of the anesthetic and our kitty's weren't 100% because of her age so it put her in kidney failure and we lost her a short time later.

On a positive note, my 13 y.o. Sally has a heart problem, slightly elevated kidney values AND problems clotting and she came through an endoscopic biopsy with flying colors. By doing the bloodwork ahead of time, they were able to give her vitamin B12 and K shots prior to the procedure so she was able to clot normally. They monitored her kidneys but they were fine.

We hope Terri makes it through her surgery okay. You guys will be in our purrayers!

Hugs & Purrs,
Kristi & Sally Maria

Thanks you all so much! Phil is definitely purring for her. shes going in this afternoon and I should be getting a call from my mother around 5 with how she is doing. Thanks for that info too! I know she had her annual everything recently and have started looking for more age related problems (like kidney and heart function) in her tests since she is so old and everything came out OK for now, but if this tumor can happen so fast, something else could have too, I'll be sure to let her know to ask!

I'm sure Terri feels all this love! she a tough ol' gal, but I worry for her. I"ll update when i hear more!kitty

This is Delyte. We are all purring non-stop for Terri today! I had a serious operation three years ago with a lot of anesthetic and didn't have any problems, nor with tooth surgery later on. They have made some advances in anesthetics recently. Our person's doggie died of liver failure in 1994 after having her teeth cleaned, so it is something we always worry about. Quadruple purrs from us! hug

Phil - tell your meowmy we are sending out MASSIVE amounts of purrs, and our mewomy will also say a prayer that Terri comes through surgery fine.

We will be watching this Forum to see how Terri is doing. Yes, this is one of the great things about CATSTER, all the other member understand your concern when one of your cats is ill, needs surgery, etc.
