SICK Himalayan runt kitten

This is a special place for cats to share their love and support for each other during difficult times; it's a place to light candles, give a "get well purr" and let everyfur know they are never ever alone.

I need some expert advice. Owners, breeders, vets, anyone.

I brought my little Juli (blue point Himalayan kitten, runt) home on Sunday, August 20. Right away she was snorting, sneezing, running at the nose and eyes. At first, I figured it was due just to her breed. But on the day she started sleeping alot more than she had been, I called the vet and insisted on her being seen. He said she had a bacterial respiratory infection, secondary to a viral infection. He gave her an oral antibiotic. This was on that following Friday. Within a couple of doses, she was much perkier, and better symptomatically. We continued this for five days - until she started having loose stools. The vet said it was OK to stop the antibiotic.

Tonight, when I came home from a social function, Juli seemed less active than usual. The light seemed to bother her. Her eyes were tearing, and greenish yellow snot was coming out of one nostril. I still have the antibiotic, so I finally dosed her and put her to bed with the lights out.

I am getting worried about her. She is so small. She only weighed 1.00 pounds at age 2½ months on that vet visit. What do you all think I should do next? See the vet again? What kind of care should I insist upon? What does Juli need next? Is her life in danger? Please help. Please answer. I am so worried about her.

Thanks.

Candy

Oh you poor thing you must be so worried. I personally would take her to the vet again. She may need some more antibiotics. Did they do any blood tests on her before?
I think a visit to the vets asap and plenty of TLC and she will be ok. I think to try and treat it or guess at it is dangerous.
Please let us know how she is. If you want to chat just send us a message we have Himi knowledge because of Mr. Snuggles.
Good luck all paws and fingers are crossed here.

I agree - take her back to the Vet. Keep her nose wiped clean with warm moist tissues, and make sure she's eating and drinking. Blood tests right now are a good idea. She may need a different antibiotic. Don't worry about being pushy with the vet if you have a concern.

How is your kitty doing today? I wish I were an expert but I am not. My spina bifida kitty has survived longer than supposed to because of love. I know you love your kitty and runts are special kinds of pets more often possessing more qualities than the normal sized ones. All I can offer you is that I know that the Lord cares and knows even when a sparrow falls to the ground. I prayed over my two kitties and asked him to bless them with strength and health. I was wondering if she is still too small for an antibiotic shot. If you get her a shot and then continue giving her the drops that would help I am sure. We need to find out what foods to feed also that would counteract the diareah. She is so cute in the picture. I took my sick kitten to bed with me at night and put her by my head so I wouldn't roll over on her but I am not expecting you to do that but that was how worried I was about Sweetpea, she threw up all the time and was so tiny and little too and could not keep any food down at all. The lord helped me with her and now she is so healthy and four years old like Sasha. Sasha and Sweetpea and Baby are sisters.

I agree too. Go to the vet asap. Get blood test if you haven't already and don't orry about being pushy either. Your kitty is sick and you need answers. Just watch her as much as you can and my vet says when one of our kitties are ill to give chicken baby food and put some on the end of your finger and let her lick it off. You can put a little in a dish too. Cats seem to be able to hold the baby food down. i've tried it and it does work. Lot of love always hekp too. We will be praying and purring for you.

I agree that you should go to your vet at once! My 12 year old kitty, Buster, started snorting, sneezing, and sounding like his nose was stopped up. He's a wild thing and a trip to the vet is a real experience, but I got him there. They did blood work which indicated a possible kidney problem (turned out not to be so), but suspected polyps in his nose and decided to do surgery. They anesthetized him and went up into the nasal cavity which had a lot of congestion and junk, but no polyps. After the surgery they gave him a steriod shot, and he came home the same day. About 6 weeks later, he started the sneezing and snorting again, and the vet said that he might need the steriod injection again, because they are only effective for 6 to 8 weeks. He is doing fine now, but he's an adult and very strong. Your kitty is weak and needs immediate help! You might suggest the steriod injection to see if it is appropriate for such a young kitty.

We send our love and prayers.
