You might want to try something with a higher protein content and more meat like Nature's Variety. big grin

Amber

I didn't do it!

Yes, she constantly begs for food, but I know from experience that she will eat until she gets sick and then go eat some more; I have seen her do it on more than one occasion.

Smithwick is like that too. He is always crying for food. BTW thanks for the formula Hunter, I was loking fo it, and got sidetracked! I think it is like people though too. Some can eat like a horse & never gain, and others (sigh like me) just LOOK at a cupcake & gain 5lbs! Mine all go to the vet within the next week, so I figure I will find out then!

Thanks so much for all of your responses! I have never though of parmesan cheese before and that sounds like a great idea. When I bring Koda to my parents (aka "Grandma's house"), my mom always mixes milk in with his food and she claims he eats more, even though I always strongly advise her not to do that! Parmesan cheese seems safer. He hasn't been to the vet for awhile so I don't know what they would say about his weight. Maybe he just knows exactly how much he needs to eat and I'm just over analyzing his skinniness. In any case, I will try these suggestions and see how it goes. Thanks everyone! smile

Mocha weighs 7# on the nose and it's a perfect weight for her. With her, I feed strictly wet food and if I go based on the cans, she's supposed to get one 5.5oz can of food a day. Now, in reality, she only eats about half of that each day and easily maintains her weight. When she was on raw, though, she was eating 6oz a day and maintaining. The key is to look at the Kcal count.

Our other cat, Kira, who's a very nervous type cat, she averages about 10-11# and she eats about 7-8oz of raw each day. On wet food she eats about 5-6 ounces. With Kira, she also eats wet kitten food. It's not higher in fat, but has a much better protein to carb ratio than the 'adult' versions. Most of the higher quality wet foods, though, are 'all stages' food.

As to leaving wet food out all day... that's up to you. I do it for mine without issue. I don't have the ability to feed multiple times a day, so I simply leave out their wet food. If I don't we end up with a lot of gorge and regurgitation and I think the risks of stress and dehydration are worse than the potential for bacterial growth in the food. It's very rare that their food will sit out for longer than 6 hours at a time, and cats lose so much moisture when they regurgitate/vomit that it's not worth it to have it happen.
