I am planning on checking a local meat market that we get our meat from and ask them about getting the organ meats and such that I would need...BUT...I am certain I still need to find some kind of dry food so they have something to nibble on...I just don't see how you can feed them a few times a day and not have something there for them to eat when they want it...
Thanks Hazel Lucy for the invite! I will definately join!
I do plan to check on raw diets...just not sure if it's something I can really get in to..$$$$$ is the BIGGEST issue now...I wish I didn't have al these cats....I love them all..but it's so hard when they get sick and you pay a fortune for one and then worry another may get sick...I just can't afford all this.....

| Purred: Thu Nov 5, '09 9:46am PST | | | | | I just wrote this in the post above yours about having food for them all the time, it isnot natural for a cat to have food down all the time.. Its actually good for cats to go without for a while, as it gives them time to digest the food. If there is a constant food available it a plays havoc on the pancreas, and also raises the ph of urine just by them being able to smell the food. Not sure how much your cats weigh, but putting down some in the morning then some when you get home, and you can even give a tiny bit before you go to bed. | | | | |

I have 5 kitties here.........I just bought some California Naturals Herring and Sweet Potato formula and some Felidae Grain free salmon meal formula...of course a couple really like the one...BUT we still need to open the other and let them try a little...
I am STILL considering the raw diet though....just concerned how difficult it may be to get my hands on rabbit and venison to use....don't really wanna use chicken....(since I suspect the one is allergic to it)
oh boy...this is no fun..........

| Purred: Thu Nov 5, '09 4:24pm PST | | | | | Oreo, the good news about raw is that even though a cat may be allergic to a protein source in a can, they often won't show any reaction to the raw version of it. I was sure BK was allergic to chicken, but when we went raw I found that he had no reaction to it at all. In fact he hasn't shown a reaction to any raw protein.
I've seen a post on the raw forum about how to get cheap or free sources of meat to feed raw. You might be able to search for it.

| Purred: Fri Nov 6, '09 12:30am PST | | | | | Just make sure that you are not feeding to much fish, and potato to your cats, especially the one that has had the struvite crystals. Once a week is ok, but no more. Cats prone to struvite crystals should not have grain, potato, fruit, vegies, or potato.
This is why a raw diet would be much better for your situation.
