Try trader joes, thats what the kitties eat and its $.50 a can, they also have cat tuna, which I think it slightly cheaper.

Yeah, I hafta say, go with what you can afford, and if your lil' friend does well on it, so be it, and there are a handful of decent less-expensive foods out there.

Benjamin, I've had trouble with Heidi and Abbie being a bit gassy on some of the Wellness canned flavours, too. I had to cut out most of the fishy flavours - Abbie wasn't too keen on them, anyway - but I'm still trying to keep a bit of a variety. Heidi likes them all...well...Heidi would eat anything...but Abbie is more partial to the ones containing chicken or turkey. I still rotate about 8 or so flavours and seem to have eliminated the problem ones.

Sprinkles, while I agree, as does my vet, a variety is good, I did want to let you know that Alaidh lived 16 of her 20 years on only dry - high quality Medi-Cal. I started to add canned to supplement her diet when her kidneys started to weaken as she got older. She never did really like the canned, and I had to mix it into a warm soup-like consistency for her to eat it. She was eating the dry up to two days before she died...and she still had a full set of teeth.

Wow! thanks for mentioning booger! I have a trader joes thats a 10 minute drive from my house. I would think it would be pretty expensive if it's coming from a good place like trader joes! And I just found out, while doing some research, it is reccomended by the author of catinfo.com so yay I will soo look into it!

Oh and is it $0.50 for a 3 oz can or is it larger like 5.5 ounce??

yeah, I think its a good deal, it doesent have anything icky in it and the cats love it, theyre technically my parents cats, so I convinced them to switch them to costo kirkland dry and TJ's canned, which seems to work for them budget wise.

And the can is 5.5 oz.happy dance

My cats have eaten the Meow Mix cups and they're relatively good-but still, I wouldn't feed it long term. This link might help if you're looking at FF, however none are byproduct free but they are grain-free: http://www.felinediabetes.com/glutenfree.htm

If I may inject another consideration: be aware of the container in which your wet food comes! My mom read an article recently about the dangers of some chemical (BPH? BHA?) in certain plastics; the chemical can leach into the food/beverage that's in the container - it warned against polycarbonate sport bottles. The article mentioned to look for the recycle number of 7 (Other), as any plastic with that number might contain the lethal chemical. To her horror, Mom discovered that two of the wet foods she'd bought (one was Meow Mix in the yellow cups; the other was Wholesome Goodness, she thinks - and there may have been a Harmony Farms as well) *all* had the 7 recycle number. She didn't have many of those, so she finished feeding them over a period of time, but she won't be buying them again. And now, when she sees a food that comes in plastic cups, she's certain to check the recycle number and not buy anything with the 7.

Just something we thought y'all ought to be aware of - something else to consider when choosing a food.

Yeah I'm already reconsidering getting meow mix when after reading through all the good meats, so far delighted I encountered sugar which did not please AT ALL. The reasoning as to why they throw that in I have no idea.

Plus what you just said LOL
