My human spends about $60 a month on food for me and Osiris. I think it used to be less but then Osiris needed to be on special food (but he's all better now!)
I believe my humans spend about $10.o0 a month on myself and my younger female companion, Willow. However, Willow seems to be content on having nothing but dry cat food, while a male of my obviously excelled stature requires far more of a broad menu.
I tend to dine on Eggs and meat in the morning, often accompanying it with a bit of toast and some milk. Then, at lunch, I prefer the dry food (or sometimes a ham or turkey sandwich... no mayo though). Then, finally, for Tea, I prefer a meaty diet of beef, pork, chicken or fish (white fish only).
Which reminds me, have to excuse myself from writing now. I do believe Willow has once again gotten herself stuck on the roof. I must go rescue her before she attempts to use the tree. Last time she did that, I was licking pine cone remnants out of my fur for a week. *groan*
Because of our financial situation, I shop at a local liquidation store for cat food (I don't buy her bad brands, I actually find really good food there, even organic cat food and Wellness), I feed her half kibble and half wet for variety. I spend about $12 a month on cat food for Velcro (it's usually about $6 for a 6 - 8 lb bag of cat food, and cans of cat food are five for a buck).
We have 3 cats and we try to feed them the best we can. We've switched them trying to find what works best for them and our pocket book. We've found raw has been our best option (we're in Canada).
Well originally the cats were eating Orijen - $47 and merrick wet $34 (for a months supply)
We than switched to NV medallions which cost over $110 per month.
And now they're on Paws and Claws Pet Pantry Raw ( a local organic raw) and it costs $60 (for 1 month). Plus some chicken necks which costs like $3 for a months supply

I'm kind of horrified at some of the cost for some people LoL
I started doing the math and well... we simply don't spend that kind of money although we went grain free and all...
Dog: 75lbs Lab/Chow mix= 30lbs Innova EVO large bites $53 a bag lasts 3 months so 13.77 per/month. He is 13 and can no longer tolerate wet foods...
Monkey: 20lbs Maine Coon/??? mix= AvoDerm chicken select cuts $22.00 for 26 3.3oz cans in a flat (don't ask? used to be 24) and Innova EVO cat food $18.77 per 6lb 6oz bag lasts 3 months also.
So our monthly food bill adds up to $42.03 and sometimes less cause our cat is prefering the dry food now that we've switched to EVO... not sure what that means to him in the long run given that it is a much better food for him in general?
I have to laugh at some of the cost of grocery store meat by-product foods... $.89 for Fancy Feast Medleys??? That's the SAME as AvoDerm select cuts...it's MORE then Merrick at $.84 a can here... that blows my mind!!
Because my Human buys cases of food and I eat 4 brands and several different varieties, she buys food for me every 2 to 3 months. So there are some months when my food bill is $0 and other months when it is high because I'm running low on some of my food.
i was at the pet store yesterday and got my 5lb bag of Wellness healthy weight, and as the cleark rang it up my dad behind me exclaimed " holy **** Kathryn! you pay that much for cat food?"
this is pretty much my thoughts whenever i have to buy cat food. i cant get over the price of a tiny bag of cat food. And dont even get me started on cans. But i try to get the best i can when i have the money.
when im on a budget, i find that chicken soup dry is ok to get, and when i am really broke, and its 'this or nothing' i get cat cho, because of all the cheepy cheep foods, at least the first thing is meat.
but that happens when i am totally out of food and all i have is 5 bucks to my name. sometimes i feel bad for feeding them that, even if it just for a few days. But i guess being a college student with rescue cats to feed, i do what i can.
what gets me, is the people who buy cheep cat food that CAN afford to get better. you know who i mean. that lady down the street with 3 SUV's, a hottub, a coach purse and 2 perfictly trimmed yorkie poos who goes to the store and gets canned Iams for her dogs and generic wal*mart brand dry for her ONE cat.
beleve me, its a war to convince people to feed there cars the best that they can afford. most people still beleve that any old cat food is good for "the cat"
but my mom reminded me that back years ago, the best cat food WAS nine lives, meow mix, ect. so maybe some people still beleve that?
at the store i saw an eldery man lifting up 2 giant bags of "speical kitty" ( wal*mart brand) and 2 cases of there canned. We went over and offerd to help him get it into the cart. He told us that he feeds over 20+ feral cats outside his home, and that he does "trap-neuter-return" I told him that was great, and i was glad that he took upon himself to feed so many cats!
now i can totally understand why he would get the cheeper brand. I admire people like that who spend there last dime on some kibble for a homeless cat or dog
and i admire all of you catsters who get the best they can afford
I agree with people buying cheap brands to feed homeless or stray cats and dogs. I always clip the grocery brand coupons and then get some grocery brand cat food for really cheap and donate it.
*Sigh* were stuck on expensive vet food for life. No other food agrees with me and my crystal problem. I like it but mom wishes she could give me more variety and a better balanced food. She does give me vanilla icecream occasionally (bad mommy)
