Squeakers- (Gone Too- Soon)

Furever my love

Purred: Tue Jul 28, '09 7:35pm PST
*sigh* I didn't know I'd tell this story a million times, but it is interesting.
My Mommy moved from Minneapolis to a place she could afford in St. Paul and when she did, a friend's Personal Care Attendant asked if she purrhaps wanted a kitty? At first, Mommy said no, she was just settling in and couldn't take me in March or April, when it was safe to take me away from my mama. I had a hard time cuz one of my littermates was killed by a pet dog!
Finally, at the end of June, 2003, when I was four months old, Mommy decided to take me. She made the deal with the PCA on her friend Jennifer's birthday, and, so she'd have time to get me a litter pan and food, etc, they decided to wait a week, so the PCA and his alleged (they said they were, but they weren't married, and they were animal hoarders!) wife came driving up, holding me in her (the wife's) arms.
Then, my name was Brownie, but Mommy didn't like that name. Actually, at first, she didn't like me! eek She thought I was. . . ugly! eek
Jennifer held me while we were in the elevator and then when we got to the apartment, Mommy showed me my food dish and litter box and water dish and had Jen put me down.
When I was free, I started roaming around my new pad. I started to squeak while I walked, so Mommy named me Squeakers, after a name she had heard on the Cosby Show (from a guest dog that Rudy brought home).
Jen left and I went under the bed. Mommy had had experienced this with a friend's cat before, so she knew better, to just leave me be. She grabbed a book and turned on the TV. Twenty minutes later she felt a paw on her shoulder. .. it was me!
We were pretty good friends from then on, yeah, we had our hard times, like when I pulled the emergency cord and was "banned" from the bathroom for six months, and when she actually slept at Jen's apartment while Jen was away because I wouldn't let her sleep, I was too busy banging the pictures on the wall, and when I meowed all night long after my first few strolls in my new stroller.
My Mommy adored me, though, she still misses me and will always say that I was called to the Bridge way too soon.

Angel Sandy

Always an Angel

Purred: Tue Jul 28, '09 8:06pm PST
I don't know why my former owner, Grandma Millie, named me Sandy, probably cuz of my fur color shrug
I lived with her for almost twelve years, on a farm, in Wabasso, MN. Then she broke her hip, she was, after all, 87 years old. It happened just before my twelfth birthday. I had had a brother, Milo, but he went to the Bridge the year before, so I was the only cat, and I preferred it that way!
When Millie broke her hip, she had to have surgery and after her surgery she wouldn't be able to live on her own, so her sons came to help her pack and move out of the old farm house. There was one problem though .. . me!
She was going to move in with one of her sons and his wife and family, including two Burmese cats. Her other son wanted to take me out back and. .. . shoot me! eek
Well, I don't know how it happened, maybe Millie called some foster lady, but an hour later, here she came to come and rescue me from my death! Thank you Linda!!! I stayed at her place for the weekend.
Meanwhile, my soon-to-be Mistress, who already had Squeakers, was thinking about getting another cat.. .. not sure why, something was telling her she wanted another cat. She was going on a Friday, after work, to Petsmart's adoption fair to get another cat, but something was telling her no, that it wasn't right. . .and when she got home Jennifer told her that the lady that was driving them to Petsmart had had a flat tire, they couldn't go! Mistress was relieved and just thought that maybe she wouldn't get a new kitty after all.
On Monday, Jennifer went to her chiropractor's office and while in the waiting room with her guide dog, Lyndi, met Linda! They started talking about pets and Linda was telling her about me and how shy I was and how she had to pet me in order to get me to eat, even.
Jen mentioned Mistress, saying that she wanted another cat, so Linda gave Jen her number and when she got home, she emailed it to Mistress.
Mistress read it in a trance and before she knew it, she felt herself calling Linda and leaving her a message. An hour later, Linda called back and Mistress thought maybe Linda could bring me in a week, after she got home from Mother's Day weekend, which was the next weekend. .. but no, Linda wanted to bring me in a couple hours! She even brought a litter box, my favorite litter, and my favorite goat cheese!
When Mistress let Linda into the building she thought "I'm gonna meet my new cat in a few minutes!" As soon as we stepped off the elevator on her floor, she could hear me. .. all the way down the hall! I was meowing my head off! Mistress let Linda in and Linda took me out of the carrier and put me into my new Mistress' arms. I started to hiss at Squeakers, who hissed right back! Then I ran out of Mistress' arms and ran behind the couch! Linda stayed for a few minutes, and after she left I ran under the bed.
The next day, Mistress woke bolt upright in bed at 3 A.M and started to worry about me. She only got another hour of sleep, so she was really tired when she came home from work. She spent some time with Squeakers, to let her know she was still loved, then after dinner, she came into the bedroom where I was hiding and laid down, tired on the bed.
A minute later I came up on the bed, and a minute later than that I started to knead on her!
Mistress melted like a ton of butter! After a few months of being the scaredy cat, I became the Alpha cat and started whapping Squeakers across the face whenever she got in my way!
Now I'm an only cat again. That almost changed, she almost adopted a cat named Charlie, who belonged to a neighbor who died after Squeakers left for the Bridge.
Lucky that didn't happen!

I got Coriander and Curry off of Craig's list when they were about 7 weeks old. I was looking for 2 free or low-cost kitties, pref females from the same litter. This was about a month after my Lilly died.

They came with names but I changed them to Coriander and Curry because I called them my spice girls and they were the spice of my life. Well Curry was laying on "her" back right before Christmas and I looked down and what did I see? Male genitalia!! She was a he. Luckily his name still fit him and he doesn't mind keeping the pink collar I had bought for him when he first came home. I thought about switching with his sister but that would just screw me up when I looked at photos. They looked identical until Curry grew faster than his sister. His head is noticeably bigger than hers, and I still mix them up a lot. The collars help, that's why I initially got them, even at night because his has a pink plastic bow of it that I can feel when I pet him.

Kaci- Sunshine - Dreamgirl #3

Mommy thinks i'm- adorable!

Purred: Fri Jul 31, '09 10:24am PST
When my Abby went to the Bridge 3 days before Christmas 2005, I was heartbroken and didn't want another cat. In fact, I told everyone Abby was the last cat I'd ever have.

In late January 2006, I learned that an elderly friend had cancer and wasn't expected to make it. She had moved in with her daughter at the beginning of December and was seeking a home for her two cats. She was very worried about them. Her daughter couldn't adopt the cats because of allergies. Her cats had been left alone in her house the whole time, with a neighbor feeding them. She wanted them to stay together. Compounding the problem, they were older cats -- 9-1/2 yrs old at that time. I told her I'd adopt them if no one else did.

A fews days later, I had a sense of urgency and called my friend to tell her I'd adopt both cats. The next day -- a Sunday -- I drove to her house and brought Kaci and Mittens home. My friend and her daughter called me that night to ask how Kaci and Mittens were doing. She told me more about them and their personalities and was laughing at some of the things I told her were happening with the cats. It's the last time I ever talked to my friend. The next morning she collapsed, went into the hospital and died in the early morning hours on Wednesday.

I don't know why they were given their names. My friend was the second owner and she kept the names their first owner gave them because they were over a year old when she adopted them and she didn't want to confuse them. And when I adopted them, it was too late to change their names.

Mittens is a dilute calico with 4 white paws and I guess her name fits her. smile

At first I thought Kaci's named was spelled Casey. I didn't like her name but what could I do? A few months later I found out from my deceased friend's daughter that her name was spelled KC. I tacked on Sunshine because she's a little ray of sunshine. smile Because she's an orange tabby and her name was neutral, everyone would initially think she was a boy cat. So earlier this year I changed the spelling of her name from KC to the more feminine Kaci.

Sabastian

My name means- Majestic in- Greek!

Purred: Fri Jul 31, '09 10:41pm PST
We named Storm, Storm, just because. And got him from our shelter.

We got Sabrina from the same shelter, and named her Sabrina because she was a black cat, seemed which like, and wanted to have a theme of S's. Turns out the name fits her perfectly. She acts like a queen and Sabrina actually means 'princess' in a sort.

Our neighbors had an oops litter and I persuaded my mom to let me get the only pure black kitten in the litter. I wanted to name him Salem, but my mom didn't want people to think we were devil worshippers or something so she made me name him something different. My mom gave me a list of names and I chose Sebastian. But I can't stand spelling it with an 'e' so I changed that to an 'a'.

I always have to be different. big laugh

Kado Spencer

I\'m Charming,- Love me!

Purred: Sat Aug 1, '09 10:54pm PST
I never get tired of responding to these topics.

Kado was an SPCA cat. We adopted him a couple months after we had to put down our old cat. We saw him online and my sister fell in love. After going to see him twice we decided to adopt him. We had a little race with another lady to get the forms filled out to adopt him. We finished 1 minute faster and were approved to take him home. His name was Kato (cat-o), we didn't like the sound and we'd recently discussed names we liked and we decided Kado (kay-do) would suit him very well. The pronounciation comes from the latin word caedo- to kill and the spelling from the dutch word kado - gift.
He is a gift and his glare could kill wink
He got his middle name Spencer becasue that's the name of the friend who first pointed him out to us.

Oddy was my friends cat. I got him because my friend was having trouble with 5 other outdoor cats and Oddy as an indoor cat (he's too friendly and stupid to be allowed outside) I love orange (ish) cats and me and my friend started joking around that I'd take him in exchange for a shirt. Well things at my friends house started to get strained between cats and Oddy came to live with me (no shirt trading involved) Oddy got his name cause he's odd. My friend named him. I made his full name Odran Jarrett. Odran means pale green, they second colour in his eyes and Jarrett was his old owners last name.

Suzy

Vicious kitty

Purred: Tue Aug 4, '09 12:34pm PST
When we bought our house a few years back I was in a hurry to find a furry friend. We already had a dog Nopi our german shorthair but I badly wanted a kitten. I posted an add in a local column for a kitten. It was not quite kitten season yet so I was so happy when I got a response. A lady said she had gotten a calico kitten the week before but was worried becuase she was sleeping with her baby and needed to rehome it. I now know I was lied to looking back. I brought Suzy home. She is a great cat but HATES EVERYONE!! She has never been snuggly. She never sleeps with us and will bite if petted however she loves us in her own way. She is always around until you pay attention to her then she runs.
That brings me onto how we got Pixie. I decided about a year later to adopt an adult cat. I figured maybe it was calm Suzy down and give her a playmate. We were having problems with her biting my kids going up and down the stairs. I wanted an adult cat this time around so I knew we would get a better view of the personality. I called the local shelter and they had just recieved a call from a lady on a farm who found a siamese kitty. I called her right away and went to get her. She has proven to be a sweetheart. She was about 10 months when we got her. It was -40 below out that January and the vet thinks she had a litter of kittens(none were found) and I am sure they wouldn't have survived those temps anyway.
We just recently aquired Bella. It has been almost two years since we got Pixie and she had taken an extreme liking to my husband. Since I am the cat lover (he is too but won't admit it smile I wanted a kitty to like to snuggle on my lap too and had not had luck with Suzy or Pixie. I thought this time I would go the kitten route again... Holy moly I forgot how WILD kittens are. Well Bella is doing great she is about 11 weeks old now...
Ok now how I named them... Suzy and Pixie were just named because I thought those names fit and I liked the name. Bella is named after Bella on Twilight... I know corny but I LOVE the books!!! and it fits her so well!

Quetzal

Wild thing u- make my heart- sing ♥

Purred: Sun Aug 9, '09 3:59pm PST
My dad and I had planned on getting a couple of cats for a while, and on January 4th 2008 we went to a no-kill shelter called Forgotten Felines. I had already gone on Petfinder and looked for adoptable kittens in my area, and at Forgotten Felines there were three cats listed that had caught my eye- one was Carson, Quetzal's adopted brofur, and there was also a grey tabby and a calico. Well, we got there, and there was this room with lots of kittens and cats in it, and in the corner there was a cage with Quetzal and two of his siblings in it. Well, I liked Carson (then called Tad) a lot, so my dad went to fill out the adoption papers. While he was gone, I picked Quetzal up out of the cage and started stroking him. He looked up at me with his huge kitten eyes and started playing with my hair... I knew right away that he was coming home with me. And now that I'm living on my own and brought Quetzal with me (Carson stayed with my dad), it feels like we belong to each other even more (although he never bonded with my dad anyways).

I'm not really sure where his name came from... I was stroking him in the car trying to come up with a name, and he looked up at me again, and suddenly I blurted out 'Quetzal!' to my dad. It was the name of a type of bird I remember reading about when I was little but why it would come to mind at that particular moment I have no idea (although I like to joke that Quetzal chose it for himself and told me telepathically laugh out loud ) And then when we got home and I looked at his fur closer, I noticed he has a rather distinct white 'Z' on his back/shoulder. Z for QuetZal? I dunno, but it stuck instantly. wink

♥- Nina- ♥

Jellybean the- queen <3

Purred: Mon Aug 10, '09 12:43pm PST
I am not a cat person. My parents are the cat people. I do love them though, but I prefer dogs. Anyway, my ex piano teacher gave my parents 2 cats named Princess and Beany. She was leaving the country and couldn't take the babies with her, but 2 months later, she changed her mind and made us give the babies back to her. Of course that broke my heart into a gazillion pieces. My mom wanted another orange and white kitty, so my dad went on petfinder and saw Jellybean and fell in love. He and my mom drove 3 hours to get her, and the rest is history. This is not the entire story. It's all on her page, so feel free to go and read it. I don't have time to write it right now. I just got back from my vacation and I have a lot of catching up to do, but I will tell you about her name. Nina was her name at the rescue, and my mom liked it, so we kept it. Jellybean is just my nickname for her because she loves playing with Candy, and Nina is too old-fashioned for me, MOL. I'll read this thread all the way when I have more time.
