If you are wondering what is the right cat for you, this is the place to be. 	Why, everyone trys to choose a really high pricey Cat? When you can get a cat out of a shelter.. Cats, are needing homes to, my family helps alot of people in "Choosing the Right Dog", but thats a dog, sometimes you gotta get a sertian breed of dog for something you wanna do. But, a cat, I'm not trying to say that I don't like cats, cause I love them. But couldn't you just get one out of the shelter that needs a home, instead of buying one that could stay with the breeder? Also, If you ever asked me what kind of cat, that you should get. What I would tell you is one from a shelter. Somtimes cats are high in a shelter just so they know they are going to a great home. 	Me and my sis are SPCA kitties. My past owners were meanies who gave me up as a baby. Then I was adopted and returned by a second family. Good thing mom convinced dad to take me and Coco in. I was getting lonely and anxious at the SPCA. I was on my best behavior, thats for sure. After I was adopted I became a crazy jungle kitty who is hyper and loves chasing toy mousies. Mom always tells people to adopt from shelters. I'm not damaged goods! I come with spunk and even got extra toes.

	Searching for a certain breed of cat is the same as searching for a certain breed of dog. Some people always adopt the breed that they like, some really like a certain temperment, color or hair coat or body shape that only a certain breed has. But . . . there are many purebred cats (and dogs) residing in shelters. Our local shelter has seen just about every breed come through, some even with their registered papers. So I certainly wouldn't disregard shelters when looking for a purebred.

	My mom can't understand why anyone would want a "purebred" anything. She says when people buy purebreds, they're really just choosing what genetic defect they want. If people really just wanted a healthy animal, they would get a "mutt" because they are (in general) more genetically stable.

	My mumma and my skin brother were looking for a bengal after Purrcy's sister Whispurr died. They found a near-by breeder, and found me! I deserve a good loving furever home, too! and I got one! My gray brother Grizzly came from a foster home and Purrcy was adopted from one of my mumma's co-workers. Caspurr came from the same place I did. (the brat!) ALL animals deserve a good home! and truth be told...if more owners were more responsible about neutering and spaying, and considering whether or not animal ownership and the resulting costs for responsible ownership, is within their budget, there wouldn't be as many "unwanted" animals in shelters, roaming the streets, or being euthanized. ~Her Royal Majesty~ Jeepurrs Creepurrs

	I got Miss Chloe at a discount. She was $55 but when I went to go pick her up they forgot her at the vet. I had to wait until Monday (5 years ago) to get her and they took 10 bones off of her fee. Miss Callie cost $65 in 2008. Boy have the rates went up...just kidding. I too agree that all animals need a home. One huge discussion at my work are the dogs and cats at pet stores. Most are from Mills, I think. My co-worker is giving another one of my co-workers such a hard time because she wants to adopt a dog from there. I mean she throws it down her throat her opinion of buying animals from pet stores...but you know what...if that puppy is not sold, back he goes to where he came from so he needs a forever home too....if my co-worker decides to not buy him, she is not stopping the cylce. And I know if all stopped buying it would but that is never going to happen...so if you fall in love with an animal....GET THEM HOME!!!!

	I enjoy my purebred kitten. I am more of a dog person than a cat person, so I am particular about temperament when it comes to getting a cat, just as I would be critical of breeds of dogs based on personality. I know my kitten's background and that he comes from healthy lines of cats with no diseases. He was raised underfoot in a loving home with his mother and littermates until the age of 12 weeks, when a kitten is properly socialized enough to be adopted out. Yes, I paid very well for my kitten. I don't see the problem with what I did?

	I agree Atrus! There is absolutely nothing wrong with purchasing a pure-bred kitten from a reputable breeder. (and) If you can afford to purchase a kitten from a breeder, it stands to reason that you will also provide your pet with top -quality vet care, also. We have two purebreds cats, a cat adopted from a friend, and a rescue/foster cat in our family. We love them all AND provide them with top-quality care. Each has been spayed/neutered, and has an annual health exam with booster vaccines as required, blood work, and emergency care as needed. We feed only top- quality foods. We use a top-quality boarding facility that is for felines only, when we need to go away. We are not rich, except in cats. And our cats enrich our lives... We pay dearly for our pet's health care and do not spare a second thought when it comes to emergency care. We also have JOBS and WORK hard to provide the type of care our pets deserve. People on limited budgets should think twice about taking on/adopting/ or otherwise acquiring pets - if you can't afford to take care of an animal properly, then you should not bite off more than you can chew. ~Her Royal Majesty~ Jeepurrs Creepurrs

	we got Gizmo from Petsmart; but he is a rescue kitty from an animal shelter. I don't think everyone knows that you can go to a pet store and get a rescue animal, also sometimes you can get a rescue purebred animal but its obviously more of a challenge. We wanted a cat to love who would love us back, and money doesn't prove (or lack of money) that you can or can't love your animal or that they will or won't love you more. I think the original poster was just asking why it is that some people insist on spending hundreds and sometimes more than a thousand dollars on ONE animal just because it is a purebred vs. being able to rescue and/or sponsor several additional animals from a shelter so that no one is homeless.... a world with no homeless animals would be grand indeed....
