My human slave wonders if I would be happier staying home for the weekend rather than going to her parents (which is two hours away). I love the car ride, and don't need to be caged. We have been going for most of my entire life. But there is another cat there, MUCH bigger than me (although I can kick his arse) and she can't tell if I get along with him or if am scared. I stay downstairs with the large dog most of the time, watching the door to see when my human slave is going to come back. I act so CLINGY and relieved when she returns if she leaves me alone that she's afraid to do it-and feels guilty the entire time. I might have abandonment issues, but do u guys think I could adjust to staying by myself for a bit? Sometimes she thinks it's a bit excessive to drive with her cat so often...

I can see why she is called your human slave!
If you start slowly, say for a weekend (one night?) as you mentioned, you could see how it works out being "home alone." It would be easy to have enough food and water left; or a canister feeder; or if there is a friend or neighbor you like, they could pop in for a little while. It's wonderful that you enjoy the car ride, but it seems that the situation where you stay might be more unnerving than being alone. I'd give it a try! You've already shown you are adaptable. Good luck!

I could go both ways:
When my "human slave" went on vacation, or when whe went to have her wisdom fangs yanked, I stayed at home and Auntie Jen from downstairs came and fed and watered me, although she refused to clean the litter box, and after Mommy's vacation it was really nasty.
Then again when Mommy goes home to her Mommy's for Christmas, she takes me with. I do hate car rides, and I cry most of the way, but it is only about a 20 minute ride, and I like to run up and down the stairs at Grandma's house, and watch the squirrels in her woodsy backyard.
I think for long vacations in hotels and stuff, we should stay at home. But for fun little weekends or one nighters, we could go with, and if you're not afraid of that bigger cat, Go ahead and have fun!

You should be fine at home alone for a weekend. If your human is worried, maybe she has a friend who could stop by and check on you.

On the other hand, it's not a bad idea for you to take a car trip once in a while. I think it's easier to learn to enjoy travelling when you are young. I went on a lot of car trips when I was a young cat and I think it helped me accept travelling now that I'm older and a little more stuck in my ways.

Thanks guys! I guess until I start to act up in the car, I'll keep going. She just worries that its a little strange to transport me with her everywhere she goes (soon I'll have her taking me to the resturants with her! hee hee).

Just to let you know there another alternative - a professional pet sitter! We have one and we just love her to death!! She stays around and plays with us and everything.

Your Mommy can find one at petsit.com and put in her zip code.

It's not strange that your mom wants to take you everywhere. My mom would except I CRY like crazy in the car.
I think you'll be fine on vacation. If your mom has to leave you home she could get a sitter-even a friend from the neighborhood to check on you. When my mom leaves she puts on Video Catnip and that keeps me company so I don't miss her as much.

I love going everywhere with my human.
But she keeps me in a cage because it's against the law to have a loose animal in the car, and she could get a $9,000.00 ticket!
