Just need to talk it out...

This forum is for cat lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your cat.

So i'm freaking out a bit. Hunter has diarrhea, which isn't really my main conern anymore. Part of me thinks he might have some sort of urinary issue. It all started with one symptom. He was running and out of his box twice this morning. Not running in and squatting, just running in and out. He has never done this before. Red Flag went up. Then again, he had diarrhea all night and this morning. I cleaned his litter box. I would almost swear on his life I saw a pee clump. And then his diarrhea. However it was around 5:00am and I don't normally retain info that early. So now I'm at work, and I'm freaking out. From Catster I know that I have 12 hours to get him to a vet if he is blocked.

I called my parents and he hasn't peed. He did eat all of his breakfast though (wet food). He ate all of his dinner last night, again wet food. I brushed him last night and I remember going over his belly by his bladder and he didn't whine, fidget, or try to scratch me. As of 15 minutes ago, his nose is cold and wet (thats a good sign right?)I heard him over the phone and he meowed at my mother. Kind of like "Hey Memz, whats up?" He isn't straining in his litter box, when I saw him poop. He isn't meowing at the box or meowing while inside.

The only symptom he had was that he ran in and out of his box. He would do that because he has diarrhea right? He has not pooped for 10 hours before. I guess I'm trying to rationalize it and not over analyze everything like I always do.

He doesn't have a peeing or pooping schedule, although he gets fed the same time everyday. I have orders at my house to not empty the cat litter box until I get home. If no pee by 3:30, Sir Hunter is going to the vets. That would be like 10 hours of not peeing.

I guess I just need some feedback. I worry about EVERYTHING, especially when it comes to Hunter.

I need to relax... Sometimes I feel better by just talking it out.

I'm so glad Hunter peed! Not that I would have been able to give you any helpful advice or anything otherwise. But I know what it's like to be making yourself sick with worry and over-analyzing everything.

If it helps any, when Prowler was going thru his urinary issues, my vet said if they are blocked, you will feel, around their bladder area, kinda between that, and their tummy, what feels like there is a golf ball in there.

One of my friends, knows how to express the bladder, which I just couldn't grasp how to do that.

If they have bladder/urinary issues, what you are looking for, is if they get in and out of the box, scratch, sit, cry, get in and out, in and out, if they pee anywhere else other than the box, they associate the box, with the pain, and if this is accompianed by throwing up.

Prowler went thru this, and I knew he wasn't blocked, no golf ball, took him in, his urine was too concentrated. I had switched him from wet twice a day, to once a day, money, my vet said you *have* to give him wet, twice a day, mixed with water, so its real soupy. He is a crystal kitty and prone to bladder issues, I did, no more bladder issues. The urine if too concentrated, burns the bladder walls, and they think they have to do, even if they don't.

Hope this helps.

Hey Bump little angel

Thanks for the info. I was freaking out a lil bit yesterday. This morning I checked his litter box and he peed again. I'd say it was the size of an apple. He didn't poop though. I'm not too concerned about that. I think he pooped enough yesterday for 3 days. laugh out loud Now I know what to watch for if Hunter ever has any urninary issues/blockages. I hope he never does. Normally I would add water to his dinner to make that a bit more liquified. Now, I'm adding water to his breakfast too. Thank you Bump for the signs to watch out for.

So glad you're watching over all of us from the Rainbow Bridge. flowers

Your more than welcome. Not up to using smilelys yet, have only been able to just post. Which, helping other kitties, makes Bump feel good, and now that he is with the man upstairs, he can watch over all of us.

For a few days, after Bump passed, I was more than my overly paranoid self. Every little noise, every time they cried or meowed, I went running. Ya also have to know, the kittens run thru the house at warp speed, like crazy boys, as in, like your ducking from the missles flying around, which they make alot of noise.

After I saw Bump the second time, and actually petted him, I started to feel better and relax, I knew, he was watching over me and the kittens.

I was very lucky, the first time Prowler blocked, he was only 2 yrs old, it was late on a Sat night, and one of my cat show friends was over. She knew the signs, had just gone thru it with her kitty, she said he is blocked, we have to get him to a vet, now. So very glad to share and help, others, regarding urinary issues, I don't want to even think about, if she had not been over that night. I didn't know.
