Minor burned paw

This forum is for cat lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your cat.

Human's naughy kitten burned his paw last Monday on a hot stove eek He went to the ER and a vet said that it was only a very minor burn. She prescribed pain medicine and burn cream. For the first few days the kitten limped around and screamed whenever he jumped and landed on his paw too hard frown Yesterday the kitten saw the regular vet (the appointment was scheduled before the burn incident). The kitten demonstrated his juming skills for the vet and screamed when he landed shock The vet examined the paw and said the burn was healing well. The paw was just very sensitive. Nothing in the paw is broken or bruised.

How long will the paw be sensitive for? The kitten is very active so it's not possible to keep him from jumping and climbing and making hs paw hurt shrug The kitten can mostly walk with a slight limp. When the paw hurts, he holds it up and hobbles frown

His name is Leroy. Anyone ever see Disney's Leroy and Stitch? smile The kitten is naughty and handful, just like Leroy in the movie.

Someone suggested crating him but that won't work very well. Leroy would just scream his head off all day eek He already screams in the bathroom very early in the morning shock None of the neighbors have complained... yet (Human lives in a building). Leroy stays in the bathroom at night so he doesn't knock stuff around and make a mess shrug

Leroy makde his paw hurt again last night frown He slid off the bed and landed too hard frown He cried and whimpered and held his paw up frown Would an ice pack or hot pack help relive the pain? thinking

I can't see an ice pack doing any more harm, but I would wrap it in a thick towel as you don't want to frost bite the poor foot too. Years ago one of our cats had kittens in the summer, we kept most of them as we lived in the country. Once late fall set in we lit the wood stove for heat, not thinking these kittens had been using it as a jumping off point during the summer. I think we managed to only have 2 of the 6 with minor burns on their paws. Lots of cold water and polysporn.

Leroy tumbled to the floor trying to get onto the counter from the bar stool eek He landed flat on his right side and made his paw ouchie shock Human didn't have any ice or ice pack ( naughty ) so she put a bag of frozen veggies on the paw. Leroy didn't care much for the frozen veggie bag. He just wanted to cry frown His paw is ok now, maybe a little ouchie still. He played a little bit and is now snoozing on the bed.

I don't know anything about burns, but I remembered a friend who burned his paw on a hot stove. He wouldn't quit jumping and using it, either, making it hurt. I just checked his diary -- he injured it on Jan. 28 (2007). On Feb. 12 he said that it was finally all better, so it was 2 weeks.

He no longer visits Catster but you can check his diary entries about the burn if you wish: Phoenix

Hope Leroy's paw is getting better.

I am so glad Leroy's paw is feeling better! snoopy Meowma burned her arm with hot grease and it took about 2-3 weeks to heal completely.

Not to sound like a turd, but the Disney movie is called Lilo and Stitch. Lilo is the little girl and Stitch is the trouble maker. I know there hasn't been any activity on this tread in a long time however, I hope your kitty is doing well.

I started this thread 4 years ago shrug I think Catster should close threads after a certain amount of time.

Yes, we know Lilo is the little girl and Stitch is the alien. Lilo and Stitch was the first movie. Leroy and Stitch is the third movie in the series (the second one is Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch Has A Glitch). In the third movie, Leroy is the red troublemaker evil twin of Stitch. That's why Human named the Aby kitten Leroy, because he's red and a troublemaker.

Leroy is almost 4 years old now and doing well smile He's still a troublemaker shrug
