Broken tooth!!!

I was up on the kitchen counter, drinking some water from the sink when Mommy walked in. I'm not supposed to be on the counter, so I jumped down, but my paws were wet and it was too slippery to land on my feet.
Anyway, I hit my chin on the floor, and when I did that, my front left fang pierced through my lower lip, then hit the floor, chipping it off. There's also a big crack in my tooth from the bottom to the top, and my lip is a little swollen. Mommy thinks my lip will heal just fine but she's very worried about my tooth.
Any idea's what mommy should do???? Is there such thing as a Kitty Dentist?

Actually, I would take him to the vet. Being that he now has a hole in his lip, and the tooth is cracked. He may need treatment on the cut in his lip, and waiting to treat the tooth, might cause more damage.

At least call the ER vet and ask, if you should bring him in.

If he were mine, I would take him in, but I am more overly pickey than most, mol. Hope he is feeling better soon, had to chuckle when I read the beginning of your post, my kittens do the same thing, uh oh, here comes mommy. Best of luck big grinbig grinbig grinbig grinbig grinbig grinbig grinbig grinbig grinbig grinbig grinbig grinbig grinbig grin

Most vets do dentistry so just go to your regular vet (or an ER vet if you are in pain) who will be able to take care of you. If the crack goes down into the root then they vet will probably want to remove the tooth. They may refer you to a different vet who specialises in dental work if it is complicated but most vets do quite a bit of dental work on cats and dogs so they'll probably be able to do it at your local vet.

I broke off 2 of my fangs a few years ago and ended up at the vet. He did a dental on me and pulled almost all of my teeth (I am an old lady cat) and I am doing just fine now!!

The broken tooth could get infected and the rest of it probably needs to be pulled. Good luck!! hug

Hi there,

Mom and I know about dental surgery from my stomatitis. Most of my teeth have been removed (it's detailed in my diary). I went to a dental vet specialist in Northern Virginia instead of my regular vet for someone more experienced. To find a dental specialist in your area, go to the web page for American Vet Dental College http://www.avdc.org/
