Hearing Aids For Cats

This forum is for cat lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your cat.

Has anyone had any experience with the hearing aid for deaf cats Hans-Rainer Kurz developed?

My 16-year-old is finally losing her hearing and I'm wondering if the thing actually works, how much surgery it requires and how much it's going to cost.

I didn't realise you could get hearing aids for cats!

One thing you need to get checked is to make sure Shorty doesn't have high blood pressure which can be an underlying cause of deafness in older cats. Ask your vet if they can check her blood pressure for you. They check it like for people but with a much smaller cuff that wraps around their tail/arm.

Our 18 year old is deaf, but honestly I can't imagine putting him through a surgery like that. He seems to get along fine as he is.

I wouldn't put a cat through that kind of surgery, let alone a senior kitty. A sixteen year old cat would not heal well from a surgery like that. Too much of a risk.

have you tried to contact that site? here is there email eternalanimals@comcast.net I would ask them the estimated price since it would probably depend on the region your in.

I'm sure they may tell you.

But a lot of pets seems to get a long fine when they loose hearing or even go blind, you just need to pay extra attention to them.
