| Purred: Fri Feb 15, '08 4:25pm PST | | | | | | Max, I feel for ya. I suffer from idiopathic cystitis and get recurrent infections all the time. I also had the sex change thingy done, but that was before my mom adopted me. I've seen every kind of vet and specialist too. I still have problems. For you, just remember sometimes it just takes time to heal. Your mommy sounds like she's watching you closely, and you are very lucky.
At least you are using the tub. I ruined mommy's house She still loves me though and has tried so many things to make me better, but she's never tried the cranberry stuff. We've been waiting to see a holistic vet and mommy will ask about that and get back to you. If you try it and have luck, please post so I can try it too.
One thing that helps me when I get bad is to eat the s/o food for a short time and then go back to the c/d. These are Hill's and the s/o is "stronger" than the everyday c/d, so I can't eat it all the time. Have your mom ask the vet about it.
I'll purr fur you. It stinks having it hurt to pee pee, and it makes my mommy cry for me sometimes. However, besides hurting to pee, I'm a very lucky and extremely happy cat. Good luck and keep us up to date, please.Edited by author Fri Feb 15, '08 4:27pm PST

Moki
I will- survive!!! |
| Purred: Fri Feb 15, '08 5:30pm PST | | | | | | Hi Max,
It may just take awhile. Moki was on antibotics from Nov through the medical to end of Jan before his UTI went away. Sometimes a 10 day course just isn't enough. If he does seem to be responding to the Hills, then I would definately try the Royal Canin S/O. Just keep a close eye on him. As long as the problem isn't getting worse, then keep doing what you are doing and give it some time. Hopefully you'll start feeling better soon.

I shake my- fluffy tail on- the cat walk! |
| Purred: Fri Feb 15, '08 9:46pm PST | | | | | | hi! I get urine crystals qutie a bit too! well i'm gonna be 5 soon, and i've had them 3 times in my life (so far...that mommy can count... well, it hasa happend a lot) . anyway... the vet would put me on some antibiotics, and then make us be in a hills prescription food (wet food for usually around a week or so) then mommy wnated to switch me to the dry... then we needed to switch again because it's too fatty... so we were on c/d or s/d.... cant remember. the last time i had urine crystals, we did the antibiotics, the food (dry only i think) and the vet ALSO gave us stuff called Dasaquin. it's ment for joints and etc etc, but it does something to the bladder lining, etc... anyway...NO CRYSTALS since i've beein on it! mommy just opens a capaul and puts it on my food every day. it's (i think) a gluclosamine supplument or something like that.... but thats what my dr did for us, and so far, so good! (i'll need to knock on wood ). mommy doesnt like us to be on hills or science diet stuff because of the fillers etc, so we are now (we spoke to the very knowledgeable people at the store we go to) on katz n flocken by solid gold. we told them about the urine crystals, and weight management... and they directed us that way. we also give we food at night (a measured amount) and we add a little extra water in it. if you want to talk more about it or have any questions i may be able to help you (from my expirence, you should always take medical advice from a doctor) pmail me! we hope you do better! i know how horrible it is!! | | | | |

Star
Star- Evinde's secret- lover |
| Purred: Mon Feb 18, '08 8:26pm PST | | | | | | Hi Max! It's Star here.
I know exactly what you're going through. I didn't have blood- but pure blockage, which was horrible! My Furmily knows when it happens (It's happened twice for me) because I wasn't very fluid in movement, I wouldn't move too much and I'd hiss if my furmily touched me. It was horrible- at the vet's, I'd be trying to spray all over the place, frustrated, and they had to flush my body with an IV and give me a cathador. Yuck. They even gave me one of those cone heads so I wouldn't lick the "Place where the sun don't shine," Mol. I got it because I was eating a certain food with too much salt content in it. So I highly doubt you should try switching foods, it may just lead to more trouble, because that's what it lead to for me. Make sure you drink a lot lot LOT of water to flush your system, and if you're eating the wet food, eat more of that than dry. Best of luck, and if anything drastic happens, go to the vet! It can become deathly serious in a matter of hours. Now that I've got all the bad stuff out, Mol... I'm sure you'll be okay. Just watch Max closely, and make sure he downs that water. If he keeps bleeding frequently, take him to the vet's, see what they say, but it should clear up soon enough- be strong, have patience

| Purred: Wed Feb 20, '08 11:49pm PST | | | | | | i wish i had crystals...then there are treatments and dietary changes. i have chronic hemorrhagic cystitis. i pee tiny bloody spots and am losing weight. we've tried, steroids, antibiotics, amytryptyline, diets...
mom says i'm a sweet kitty, but she's at a loss for what to do for me. the vet seems to be as well. mostly i pee on the dogs beds and bowls but it's generally less than a teaspoon amount and frequently looks almost like pure blood.
