 | | | | We had a kitty who at 13 was diagnosed with kidney failure, hyperthyroidism, AND a heart condition! The vet gave her 2 months to live but with love and care, she lived an additional 2 wonderful, happy years! In the end, we had to give her multiple pills 3 times a days plus fluids so I know a lot about this topic.
Other people here have given some great suggestions so I won't repeat those. I am pretty good at pilling a cat but it does cause them stress if you have to do it often/regularly. The method that eventually worked best for me was crushing the tablets and mixing it with gravy from canned Fancy Feast (aka kitty crack). Although I would not normally feed a cat Fancy Feast, it is the cat food of last resort when you have a cat that won't eat.
I would take a snack size Ziploc bag, put the pills on it, fold it over and crush the pills with the edge of a cup until it was a powder. I would then pour the powder into a small dish (e.g. clear glass condiment bowl) and put 2-3 droppers of water and swirl to help dissolve the powder. Next, I would partially open a can of Fancy Feast -- one with gravy -- and drip some gravy into the dish. My cat would lap up the gravy along with the medicine. If there were any specks of medicine left in the bowl, I'd drip a drop of gravy on top of the speck and give it back to my cat to finish off. There was no drama, no stress! I did check with my vet to make sure this method was ok (e.g. crushing the pill to a powder versus giving it whole).
Good luck! | | | | |
